Office Accident

You caught the virus in the office, aimlessly wandering around, trying to get your colleagues to notice you.

It was a shitty day to shrink, most of your friends worked from home, and there was barely anyone there. You thought it’s best to go to the kitchen where people usually take a coffee break.

You stood there near one of the closets, sitting and waiting.

Adrianna approached the kitchen, making herself coffee, you stared at her feet, always barefoot in the office, they were dirty and smelly.

You could easily get her attention by touching her but you decided to stay idle and wait for someone else to come.

Adrianna was a very competitive colleague, from the worst kind, the kind who takes credit for other’s achievements and even bragging about it behind their backs, she would literally step on corpses to get to the top.

She hummed to herself while waiting for the water to boil, checking her phone occasionally, you tried to stay hidden as much as you could.

She finally got her coffee, but instead of walking away, she sat by the table, she was facing you and you didn’t like it, you started walking to a place where she wouldn’t see you.

“Hmm?”

You heard her, you turned your head to look at her and realized you are having eye contact, she spotted you.

“Oh my god, who is it?” She stood up and walked towards you, you stood still and looked at her, she bent down, then giggled, “Jack? It’s you?”

You nodded.

She got up and looked around, you didn’t know what she’s looking for, “oh, poor little Jack, so sucks to be you”, she giggled mischievously, “now Sam will definitely assign me to the Widget project like I asked for”

You gulped and stared at her, you wanted to say something but she towered above like a skyscraper, she would never hear you even if you screamed.

You didn’t really care about any project right now, you would give it to her in a heartbeat anyway, you just wanted to get help.

She shrugged and raised her leg, only now you realize what’s happening, you started running as fast as you could but it didn’t make any difference - shadow started forming around you as she lowered her foot in your direction.

*CRACK*

She released another giggle, then placed a hand over her chest and coughed her throat a few times, changing her face.

“H-Help! Oh my god! I think I just stepped on someone! Oh no!” She shouted, clearly faking an accident.

You were still alive, you twitched a little, she felt it.

*CRACK*

She stomped the floor again, twisting her foot a few times quickly, making sure no one sees it, she ripped your body to pieces, pulverizing you for good.

“Help!” She called again.

Sam and Jane got out of their offices, seeing what happened.

Sam, the manager, raised his hand, gesturing Adrianna not to move, “I’m calling 911, Adrianna don’t move, maybe we can save him”, he said in panic calling his phone.

Jane, the Human Resources manager, stepped forward and looked at her foot, “Sam, it’s pointless, I can’t even recognize him”, she said nonchalantly, Adrianna held herself back from laughing.

“Another headcount lost to that virus, I hope it wasn’t someone important”, Jane said and sighed, she was chewing a gum, she blew a balloon and it popped, then she went back to chewing it.

Sam still called 911, and the three of them waited until a doctor came, wearing a mask. She sat down and examined your remains on Adrianna’s foot, she shook her head.

“I don’t understand, did you twist your foot?”

“No”, Adrianna lied, “I just came here to take my coffee then crack… he got squished, it was horrible” she said in a fake innocent tone, but she couldn’t hold back her smile when she talked about it.

“Well, there’s nothing left to save”, the doctor stated, she took out a nylon bag and scratched your remains inside, then sealed it.

“See? Told you”, Jane told Sam, chewing her gum.

Adrianna lowered her foot back to the floor, “finally, it was so hard standing like that for that long lol”, she said casually and giggled. The doctor left.

“G-Girls, please look down when you’re in the office, ok? This was a terrible accident, we need to understand who’s missing, I mean, who was he”, he said and gulped, staring at them, they both looked at him with indifferent faces, “I mean, please, look down, next time it could be me”, he said in a scared tone and walked back to his office.

The girls looked at each other.

“I wish”, Jane said with a mischievous face, Adrianna couldn’t hold back anymore and burst into laughter, Jane shortly joined her.
