Yes, better not explode in a society like Japan. It will only mean trouble for you!
What I find problematic though, is that you get labeled if you do. Labels even in western societies are so stupid, because human beings are way too complex for that. A label is just one quality of any given person, and it isn't descriptive enough to give anyone a clear picture. People also change with time, so those labels become outdated. Very worrisome, if Japanese people can't forget and forgive someone for making a mistake! Have they made mistakes in life themselves? I'm pretty sure everyone has!
But that's just the lack of compassion in the Japanese society raising it's head. You said in the video that "it's really hard to come back from [a negative label]", leaving some wiggle room for a redemption. What can a person do to get back their neutral standing in Japanese society? Bringing the topic back up and apologizing is obviously out of the question. Are you essentially required to move to a new area or a town, erasing all your contacts and starting from a fresh page? That would be a bit radical, but I assume it would work?
Another great discussion topic. Thank you for your input!

Sure. Just one of the many reasons for the 30,000 suicides a year, no doubt.

You have a valid point here, however The problem with that is that when you stuff your emotions inside they can come out in ways least expected and least beneficial. I personally would have a hard time bowing and smiling when I truly don't want to
