Suprise! My LP is out.

Hi everybody! my new LP "impossible light" is now out digitally on The Flenser. You can also pre-order the vinyl, tapes and shirts. Also, sorry for keeping it secret from you guys, but my label was worried about a leak (they were right, as soon as it was available in the AEST time zone, it was up on soulseek. I have no choice but to respect that.) Here is a repost of what I said on Tumblr.

It has collabs w Otay:Onii, Liturgy, Charlie Looker and Blood of a Pomegranate. It was mastered by Lawrence English and has visual art by Quartzvii and photography by Frankie Pan (including the shot below). It's intended to be listened to with either a big sound system or good headphones at a high volume.

It's 6 years in the making, the Origin of My Depression (2019) was made during making this. It became such a big, complex album that I sidelined it for the Origin, especially since my mental health wasn't ideal at the time. Now its finally out and I can close a chapter of my life and move on.

It's the opposite of The Origin, although it is not a purely 'happy' record by any means. I suggest you listen from beginning to end, as it starts off gloomy, but doesn't end gloomy. Ultimately, its a record about the possibility of a future.

The dolls deserve human instrumentality too. Hope y'all like it.

Since you are my patreons, let me know if you have questions regarding how this record was made.

I'd like to do a sample pack of some of the elements used for it, however keep in mind I did not do the final mix of the record. I can't go into too many details of mixing I wasn't around for (However I can rely the questions to Tig/Blood of a Pomegranate) nor mastering, which was done by Lawrence English. I intentionally gave this tasks away to other people. By the time of mastering, I did not want to listen to it anymore and needed fresh ears to get it ready. With mixing, I needed help from Tig both due to being creatively stuck, but also wanting to push the mix to a more professional level. I learned a lot from them.

Also, if people are curious, I might post the original 2018 mix/unfinished version which sat around for years before Tig and I tried to get it done. For some of the songs, stems might be possible. However I'll need to check a few things first.

However the original unfinished version of "Pattern Screamers"/"Jawline" is still up on soundcloud here. It also contains the first part of a song which didn't make it into impossible light simply called "you did this to me". I still like the song, and will likely re-release it in the future (and maybe here).

Also, some of the final ableton mixes had 100+ tracks, so stems might be a while away and VERY big. Here is *some* of Impossible Light / Golden Flower. Each of those tiny lines is a track, the names on the sides are groups.

Sorry the last month has been mostly empty, but now you know why. If you are too broke and want the hi-quality WAVs for free, DM me.

Let me know what you want to know/have about the record!

By high volume, I mean movie cinema loud. Not so loud it distorts as that would obviously sound worse. It’s a record that emphasises scale, so having it too quiet might mean the sense of “bigness” is gone, especially if also not on good speakers. Also due to the large dynamic range, I’d recommend also not doing something like driving or any other background noise that could drown out the quiet parts. At least for a first listen. Treat it like a blockbuster movie, where the loudness empathises the sense of scale. Watching inception on a small screen is kinda mid for this reason. My tinnitus is unrelated to hearing loss as it is purely neurological. Got my hearing tested a few months ago and it was somehow perfectly healthy with no hearing loss, or at least for my age. Earplugs work! My ears just ring when stressed, especially when burnt out. It can be useful as an autistic person, as I’m bad at ‘reading my body’ - so having my ears ring is helpful for telling me when to rest. When I am doing well, the ringing is wholly absent. I assume it’s an autistic thing. It can be annoying, but it has a purpose.

Hey Xandra! Congrats on the release. In a year full of cool things it's still easily AOTY for me rn. Came out right at a time where I've been doing a lot of like... idk my own grieving and growing into some tough parts of my transition, etc. and it's really cool to have something to put on and know there's other folks who've been there too. Thanks for sharing this with us it's so fucking good.

why do you say that it is intended to be listened at high volume? I find it strange to be suggesting this to people especially when you suffer from tinnitus. havent listened to the record yet but i am sure ill love it.
