High School Days Ch 29 Scene 1: Alan's Night Out

And thus, we start the next chapter... Long time followers will know that Alan has had a chapter focused on him planned out for a long time, since I posted two scenes from it a while back, and now we're reaching it.

It will take quite a while to reach the point those scenes take place though, but eventually the rat will end up clinging to JD's back on a motor cycle and sharing his second kiss with the hyena

After the final school bell rang, Alan lingered by the front door of Hadenview High, taking shelter from the hot sun in the shade of the school building. His grey fur might not be full black like his hair or some glossy furred rats were, but it was still too hot to stand in full sun if he didn’t have too. Especially in his fancy new leather jacket.

Alan shifted his weight from one foot the other, brushing his bangs out of his eyes and scanning the crowd, focusing on spotting passing blue and yellow letter jackets as he searched for Keith. He was hoping he could catch a ride home from the wolf, and maybe get the chance to talk with Keith about how things went with Todd and David today. Todd had missed eighth period, their final class of the day and one that he and Alan shared, but Keith would have stayed for football practice. Too much was riding on the upcoming game for the wolf to miss practice now, no matter what had happened between him and Todd.

And Alan had no clue what might have happened. There were no rumors about the fox in the hallways or during their final class, and Alan was sure he’d have heard something if Keith and Todd had had it out where anybody could overhear them. Too many people knew that Alan and Keith were friends for him not to hear gossip about the wolf, even second hand.

Whatever had happen, it had not been interesting enough to dislodge the storm of rumors flying around school about the football team’s star players fighting, which was something else Alan really wanted to talk with Keith about. Because if something happened on the team, the wolf was likely involved in that too, so Alan had staked out the school’s front doors, waiting for the wolf to head for his truck, to both get a ride home and to see if his friend was okay.

That plan fell apart the moment he saw the gray wolf however.

Keith stormed out of some smaller side doors which were closer to the locker rooms but still led to the front parking lot, and his black mood was practically rolling off him like a thunderstorm. The wolf’s ears were flat, his hackles were up, and Keith’s teeth were flashing as he pushed his way through the crowd of students heading to the parking lot or waiting to be picked up by parents from the front of the school. Anybody who so much as looked at Keith could tell how upset he was, and that danger followed on his heels like a flash flood.

The problem for Alan was that the danger following Keith was a pack of angry, growling huskies. The four Hale brothers on the football team stalked after the wolf, circling him slowly as they followed him passed the line of parents waiting to pick kids up and into the front parking lot, following Keith as if they were the wolves, and Keith was a wounded stag on the run. The huskies were looking for an opening, for any moment where Keith would be alone, or at least, out of sight of any teachers.

“Oh fuck,” Alan muttered, his shoulders tight as he took a few steps towards the group of canines, afraid at any moment the huskies would jump Keith. The wolf looked much smaller than his pursuers, because all of them wore their bulky letter jackets, and Keith still wore only a t-shirt. The wolf practically sprinted the last twenty feet to his car, slamming the door on the huskies before they could do anything and driving away.

Alan’s ears and shoulders drooped as he watched the huskies glower and bicker amongst themselves in the parking spot Keith had vacated, and then head as a group towards the buses at the back of the school. The rat wasn’t surprised that the Hale brothers hadn’t actually jumped Keith, not in front of some many fellow students and parents, but it had looked bad there for a second. The Hale boys were bullies, but they generally didn’t start a fight without one of the more popular jocks around to egg them on. The rat headed back up to the school, wondering what he should do now.

That’s when the little drama between Nick and Kyle over Kevin played out, the wolf and Dalmatian walking to the flashy convertible and roared off, leaving the tiger behind fuming and furious. A few months ago, the rat would have smirked at the tiger jock’s suffering, but he no longer felt as amused by the idea of two best friends fighting, especially over a guy. It made his stomach twist thinking about how he knew exactly how Kyle must be feeling right now.

Alan did smirk when he saw Chris storm off away from the scene, leaving the tiger standing there alone, the leopard’s tail twitching as if somebody had stepped on it. Now that was funny, seeing Chris act like nothing was wrong in world in that stuck up way all cats did, especially because it was so painfully obvious to Alan that the leopard was mad that Kevin had chosen Nick over him.

A year ago, hell a month ago, Alan would never have noticed that, but after JD’s advances and Keith’s omission of being gay the rodent thought other guys differently. Being gay wasn’t just something the jocks teased weaker guys like him with anymore, and once Alan started thinking in terms of two guys hooking up well… now he was seeing it all over school.

Okay sure, maybe I’m just projecting, the rat admitted to himself as he watch Chris stalk off, it’s not like my own feelings about guys are the same anymore after that kiss. And the... groping. Alan wrung his paws, letting his fingers twist over each other as he thought about how JD’s hand had felt. Just thinking about how JD had kissed him made Alan’s stomach a hot, churning mess. Which is exactly how I feel about Keith and Todd, damn it, Alan thought bitterly, watching as Kyle stood there, thunderstruck, watching as Nick and Kevin drove away without him. Then the massive tiger’s face clouded, and he turned stalking off towards the busses, the tiger’s tail lashing like a whip.

Alan felt a pang for the tiger. Well, maybe Keith wasn’t the only footballer who harbored feelings for his friends. Chris had certainly looked like a jilted lover, stalking off like that with his nose in the air like there was nothing wrong at all, oh no, and Kyle’s reaction was way too strong to just be an argument between friends or teammates.
