I had intended to make some resolutions, but time got away from me. Generally, I’ve now sorted out childcare enough that taking time to go for some walks or runs is probably back on the table, and that’s a good thing. Also I should get a haircut, but failing to get a haircut for a year or so is pretty traditional in the Alice Fraser household, so I can’t blame that on the baby. Does “get a haircut” count as a resolution? I always think they’re meant to be more about establishing fresh habits. Maybe I should go back and listen to that documentary I did on habit change.
This week saw an elderly relative die, which meant my timings were a bit more unpredictable than usual, as we had a few visitors and unexpected excursions. It was really my first experience of a …. good death? He was 97 and had lived a really wonderful fulfilling life, so while the end of life is always a surreal and melancholy thing, it was not a seismic or shattering thing. It was sad in the way that the existence of death is sad; wistful in the way that such endings are so irrevocable; unsettling in the way that the black unknown is scary no matter what. But it was as good a death as anyone could ever hope for.
I’m back writing on the season of News Quiz starting this week, which will be fun, and also I have a big announcement coming this week.
I haven’t heard back about my notes from the guy who’s editing chronos, so I’ll either have to send the rough cut out to you all, or chase him up and hassle (my least favourite kind of admin task).

I’m so sorry for your loss. But as you said as far as deaths go, it is far better when they’ve lived a full life. On a lighter note I also got a haircut and because I wait several months between they’re always very hesitant to cut it too short even though that’s how I like it.
