Edinblog Day 8-10: what are days anyway?

Day 8: Friday

Today’s the end of the first week, but the second Friday I’ve performed the show. I’m looking forward to it, because in my head the ‘first’ (second) Friday is the point at which the show is what it’s going to be for the rest of the run. Barring epiphanies, it’s just going to be me finding more little jokes in the show, rather than any big structural experiments.

The sound bleed from the venue next door is brutal though. I was talking to John Luke Roberts about it, who did that room in 2005 and he said it was the same back then. You’d think somewhere that had been having the same problem for at least 20 years might try to fix it. Maybe they have. More likely, they’ve just shrugged and said “spirit of the fringe” and got on with their business.

Day 9: Saturday

• Went and saw a baby show with Laser Fraser - she was truly mesmerised. I recommend it highly. It’s cute, basic, half an hour and designed for under 1yr olds. This is the second time we’ve gone.
• Lesley Sloss runs an artists with babies day at the Abbatoir in George square. I went along, it was lovely.
• Got some southbank arts prize Judge in tonight. I’d be stressed out about it but I’ve never heard of the award, so can I be bothered?
• The show was extremely annoying tonight. A very quiet ‘theatre’ audience. (The fault of no individual audience member) combined with an enormous amount of noise bleed from the shows next door, which included some sort of loud whizzbang Saturday night party show. Very frustrating. Glad I wasn’t worried about the judge.
• Got a 4 star in the Telegraph. Lovely! (Though the reviewer does some things reviewers sometimes do: misquoting jokes, giving spoilers etc etc). Can we review reviewers?

Day 10: Sunday

Tomorrow is my day off. Feeling good.

Live salon on Tuesday 16 August will be at Tea House in St Patrick Square at 2pm.

Also I’ve found a place with decent wifi to do a video call for the Zoom Salon, so that will be at 1pm UK time on Wednesday 17 August, or your local time equivalent. (Stick it in the diary, I have!)
