I haven’t got PR at the Fringe this year, because I think the landscape of publicity has changed so much that I sort of don’t think anyone knows what they’re doing.
As such I can’t really afford to blow thousands of pounds for someone to be figuring out what the New World looks like and how you can boost an act in an environment where there are fewer and fewer reliable publicity buttons to press.
Because I am not a hot new newcomer act with a photogenically interesting backstory or a television act who’ll make them look good by association, I can’t imagine any of the mainstream publications will be interested in giving me a platform. This is not a complaint. It’s just how the incentives stack up these days for the papers and so on.
What’s left then for a PR agent to do, seems mainly to be to find little websites who will write up quirky little edinburgh questionnaires and send them to me on email. I then answer the questions in the questionnaires, trying to be either funny or earnest depending on what time they hit my inbox, they ask me for a high res headshot, I send them the link to my Dropbox folder of headshots, they publish the article, and I tweet about it to the audience of people who already know about my show, and ideally click through for the purpose of reading me saying something thus giving the little website some clicks.
I thought, instead of that, what I could do is ask you, my fine patreonites, which articles or questions (ten best blahs, favourite blah, what’s the worst blah) about Edinburgh you would like me to write up and publish them here on my Patreon. And then i can link to them on my Twitter to the audience of people who already know about my show but might be reminded that I have a a show by the presence of content.
So! Have at me. What should I answer?
ETA: your questions don’t need to be deliberately wacky, or even about edinburgh. Just prompts for content you’d like to see.
