Hallo lovely
Patreonites
I’m currently sat in a fancy hotel lobby, writing up my script for the ABC all stars Melbourne Gala show for television.
This is one of the attendant privileges of my life; the way I was brought up to feel like this is something I’m allowed to do - walk into the lobby of a hotel I’m not staying at, and get some work done, saving money on a cafe. Also they play better working music in hotel lobbies than cafes. Smooth unobtrusive jazz or classical, so there you go.
I know many other people don’t get to make that call, so I always feel the impulse to give some blood money to a charity of at least the amount of money I’d have spent to buy that tea/time at a cafe, so it’s not really a saving in the end. But I still come out on top because I get more work done, because of the jazz or the muted lighting.
Anyway, I can’t remember what I did at the gala last year (the year before) except that they cut all my jellyfish anus material for the television broadcast, which I contend was a mistake.
Trying to remember my own jokes by virtue of what AUDIENCES like rather than what I like is hard, because I’m often fond of the jokes that took a while to make work, which means they’re usually the more difficult and less TV friendly ones.
Any suggestions for jokes of mine that you particularly like or would like to see me do in a four minute set? I’m thinking sexy song is a banger, and maybe some Elon musk stuff... or maybe Elon musk isn’t mainstream friendly enough?
Tomorrow’s salon is back to being for Afternoon Tea and up subscribers, though I always enjoy the all levels ones; I’ll have to square the circle on my feelings about paywalls at some point(!) but anyway, it’ll be at 8pm Tuesday 23 March in Australian Time, (concert at will, stick in your diaries) and I’ll send through the password tomorrow afternoon to the relevant level subs.
