The future, goals, and tiers
Added 2024-07-21 12:56:04 +0000 UTCFirst of all, CH 61 was released earlier today, if you haven't read that please head over and get your reading on.
The Patreon is now at $150, which is about 50% higher than I ever expected it to go. Technically at 45 subscribers I should be near $200 or so, but Patreon takes a pretty hefty fee, I should really get Kofi setup already I might do that soon.
Regardless, I have two tiers. The standard $5 tier, and a $10 tier. No one's ever joined the $10 tier, and that makes sense, why would they? It exists solely so we can hit goals faster if someone truly wants to support the story, but I've never really explained what those goals are.
Ideally it was always going to be something like this:
$70, I start doing weekly skits.
$300, I start doing an extra chapter every week. So once we hit $300, you could look forward to 4 chapters instead of 3.
$600, I wanted to start releasing 5 chapters a week, 3 of which public.
And for any goals past that I hadn't really thought about it, but I'd probably start working on a second project involving Sakura, maybe a permanent side story that updates all the time like "Sakura in SAO" but like for real, or something dumb.
Those goals aren't set in stone, and I certainly don't think we're going to hit $300, but I didn't think we'd hit $150 so let's not pretend I'm not wrong all the time. It turns out I'm not terrible at this, and apparently people like my writing. Sounds a little farfetched, but that's not my call to make, it's yours.
My question was, and the reason I made this long winded post, is what kind of things could I add to the $10 tier or even other tiers, to make them more enticing. What would I have to add to a $10 tier for you to be interested? I'm not asking from a place of pressure either, to be clear, $10 is a whole pizza. I get it. But in general, if you did have money to spend, what would entice you to jump to a $10 tier?

Switching off means you'll be behind, but when you come back all the chapters you missed will still be there, so you shouldn't have any issues doing that with my Patreon. I have a few people who do exactly that, though they're mostly trying to save a few dollars by skipping months and not actually rotating their support. I think that's pretty cool.

2024-07-21 14:14:21 +0000 UTCIt is the kind of thing I find neat but never watch, so I think maybe you're right. Voting on omakes/helping design side characters seems to be something some people like but I've also never cared that much. I might be a bad sample though - I'm already at the point where there're more authors and stories I want to support than I can, so I tend to sub for a few months and then rotate through a couple months on a couple months off as I'm able. The $10 tiers and $5 usually get as much of my money I just switch them on and off at different speeds. I don't think that's how most subscribers act but idk

2024-07-21 13:42:54 +0000 UTCAs for votes, I would happily do votes for the Omakes if I thought people would actually pay to have a say, but the reality is if enough people wanted the same omake I would probably just be relieved to know what I'm writing this Wednesday, patrons or not.

2024-07-21 13:09:51 +0000 UTCI would not wanna do extra chapters for $10, I think that the $5 patrons deserve all the writing as standard. If I'm honest, if I thought it would make even a similar amount of money all the chapters would be public, and this patreon would just be a set of goals which raise how much is released to everyone. Exclusive content as a whole bothers me, but, that wouldn't make any money.

2024-07-21 13:08:32 +0000 UTCI honestly don't have many ideas about qhat to do for the 10$ there's always having a chapter out that 10$ can read but not 5$ but that can get slippery with being ahead and having three groups at three diffrent trading points. There's also votes, like voting for Omakes and such but going to far with that can have you loose control of the story if the votes start affecting the actual story.

2024-07-21 13:02:06 +0000 UTCCadaver in the discord has suggested I start streaming the writing of new chapters to higher level patrons, which could be cute, but I don't think anyone would care?
