"Who are you?" Syril dies unceremoniously. The last shot of the episode is one tear from his mother who will be the only person to remember he ever even existed, the only one who ever really cared that he did. Of all the thoughtful and exacting commentary this show makes, this is one of the most hard hitting. History is littered with angry, lonely men who simp for fascists, chasing a facade of greater purpose only to be chewed up and tossed aside like meat after their usefulness is over, to then be forever forgotten in time. Very much still happens today. They are the fuel that run the engine of fascism and dictatorships.

I'd highly recommend watching interviews with Tony Gilroy after completing the series. Denise Gough as well (Dedra), she's got some really interesting perspectives on her role being someone who has travelled through Palestine herself, and her previous life story.

Andor 2x08, Monster 71, Frieren 2x04. This will be a great week!

That was the entire point and why this episode felt the way it did. Tony Gilroy pulled from some of the most historically brutal human massacres from around the world. The central plan of enclosing the Ghorman and slaughtering them in the town square is largely taken from the real life Jallianwala Bagh Massacre. Colonization and genocides: two sides of the same evil coin.

TWICE? I've watched episode 8 almost TWENTY TIMES since it first was released and I STILL AT MINIMUM get watery eyes by the time I hear Wilmon and Cassian's "Ferrix...Stone and Sky" callouts.

It actually gets harder to watch every time

I STILL tear up from this episode. FUQ!!!

Diabetic Raider

The amount of anger and sadness is so repetitively felt too much throughout history 😭

"This is Palmo One... This is Palmo One. We are under siege. We're being slaughtered. The Imperial murder of Ghorman has begun."

I don't disagree but lets not take her agency away here. She made choices. She grew up in this system but so did so many others and they didn't do what she did.

As incredible as the show is, that frustration (which is arguably the point) leaves me so drained once the screen is turned off. "Where did you think this was going to go? What did you think this was going to do? What were you thinking?" What is it going to take, how much more do you need to see, did it seriously have to get this for you to even consider? And even then its still not enough. Its getting better(?) but these stories get told and repeated again in again, you would hope people were better at recognizing it, fighting against it, not defending and excusing it.

Dedra is perhaps one of the most tragic characters in this show. Stolen from her parents as a child. Mentally (and almost certainly physically) abused in an Imperial re-education camp. Twisted and shaped by a cruel system into a monster who believes she is the hero.

Oh man I've been waiting for this ep! Andor was already in my top 3 favorite shows of all time, but these last few eps easily brought it to #1
