Yeah, in this moment you realize Andor and Luthen are not exactly on the same page. Andor hasn't learned that Luthen's willing to sacrifice 50 men plus Kriger, and now he is seeing it.

seriously

The show is about to eerily mirror real life current events.

Me: "I'd never simp for a fictional character." Kleya: "Do as I say." Me: "Yes Radio Mommy."

Michael M

I think to be fair his role in the series before this was very limited and you must remember they haven’t seen Rogue One

Robthefunkyhomosapien

I understand that with all the shows you're watching it's hard to remember all the characters and their names, but the fact that you completely blanked out on Krennic feels so strange to me, especially with how incredibly written the character is in the series and Ben Mendelsohn is simply perfect in the role. I highly recommend re-watching his scenes at the party, because you seem to have talked about the Ghorman storyline in those moments.

AndyB

Jimmy Smitts had scheduling issues and the choice was to cut the character or recast. I think they made the right call.

Kara

“And if it goes up in flames?” “Then it will burn…very brightly” CHILLS EVERY TIME 😮‍💨🔥

During Vel's eulogy about Cinta "She was a miracle" right at the moment the transport passes under the overhead lights which completely bath Vel in this angelic light. Just another :chef's kiss: moment in a show full of them

JC

As a sidenote, it's amazing to me how a side character like Heert (the younger ISB guy hanging out with Lonni in this episode, Dedra's former assistant) comes across as a fully realised character through only a couple of scenes. He's a social climber like Dedra, ambitious and dedicated at work, insecure and overeager when talking to his boss, easily impressed by the fancy drinks at the party. He sounds a little jealous when he asks Lagret (the older ISB supervisor at the party) where his buddy is, and since we later see Lagret in the room with Krennic, Mon, and Luthen I assume his buddy is Krennic, who is a powerful friend for an ISB guy to have.

The closer we get to the end the more i wish i could just have missed that they have done it to later discover it and binge the whole thing in two days. I was already getting nervous waiting for this episode to drop. xD

PudelNudel

oh i know the podcast clip you were talking about it was amy Poehler with Andy Samberg. Andy being an Andor anthusiast was a nice surprise tho

Mathies

reminds me of whats happening in the US where its like it feels like a revolt should happen, but you also know that trump is intentionally provoking a civil war, so do you give into his wishes that way?

Mathies

The imperial director Krennic that was fighting with Mon Mothma was in the first episode of this season planning the Ghorman genocide.

Mate

Kleya is a great character. They expanded her role in Season 2 because she was so good in Season 1. Benjamin Bratt plays Senator Bail Organa, father of Princess Leia from the original Star Wars movies. When he said "No, you're family now" he was referencing the fact that Mon's daughter is married to Davo Sculdun's son, so Mon and Davo are related by affinity. Therefore, neither she nor Perrin could legitimately skip Sculdun's party. You're right about Luthen being blind to the human needs of the people in his network as being a central theme of this episode. He doesn't understand why protecting Bix is so important to Cassian, why Cinta means so much to Vel, or why Vel means so much to Mon Mothma. Perhaps it's because of everything that Luthen has had to sacrifice in his own life for the Rebellion, as he said in that great monologue in Season 1, "Calm, kindness, kinship, love", that he doesn't understand that not many people would be as willing to make that same level of sacrifice. Yes, they want to fight the Empire, but they need to hold on to their humanity as much as they need to win. The robbery of the carrier in Ghorman was legit. Even though the Empire knew all about it beforehand, if you remember in an earlier episode Dedra said that the Ghormans needed to know what winning feels like because the Empire wants them to grow bolder. So there were actual functioning weapons on that transport. If there were no weapons or the weapons were defective, the Ghorman rebels would become more cautious, not more bold. Finally, while I was thrilled to see Dr. Gorst get a taste of his own torture methods, it was a little sad to see that Bix was the one who tortured him. Perhaps she needed to do that to purge him from her nightmares, but it's a little like how someone who is a victim of abuse can often become a perpetrator of abuse later on in life. I'm sure the mission was to kill Dr. Gorst to keep his interrogation methods from becoming widely used by several different branches of the Empire's security, intelligence and military apparatuses. I think Bix took it upon herself to torture him first (with Cassian fully approving and providing whatever assistance she needed, I presume). That said, good riddance to Dr. Gorst, and I'm happy the last several minutes of his life were spent listening to the choral agonized pleading of massacred children. The last two arcs of the series are excellent. In particular, Episodes 8 through 12 are perhaps the best five consecutive episodes of any series ever put together, in my opinion. Episode 7 is pretty darn good too, so I think you're in for a treat. Enjoyed your reaction and commentary, as always.

I don't know what it is -- maybe that Cinta's death itself is too tropey? they saw it coming from a mile away -- but that big Vel speech feels a bit clunky to me. It's a great performance from Faye Marsay, but I think the character is communicating too many ideas too clearly in a moment when she should be more emotional? Yes, I know that there's supposed to be a contrast between the weeping Ghorman rebel and Vel, the hardened revolutionary, but it just feels a little too written for me.

Mike

It helps that Ben Mendelsohn is one the best actors on the planet

Mike

What makes the Luthen/Cassian/Ghorman contretemps so excruciating, and what makes it such good television, is that (like you said) there are irreconcilable conflicts but none of them are wrong. Cassian’s right, they’re in over their head and don’t know what they’re doing. But the Ghor are right, too. What are they supposed to do? Sit back and let it happen? While they don’t know as much as we do about the empire’s designs they must know in their heart of hearts what could ultimately happen to them. And Luthen’s right, too. Like the weird alien said in the senate chamber it’s a galaxy of worlds. And Ghorman is a big player. For them to stand up and try to spit in the empire’s eye would be a MASSIVE development. Enough of a big deal that it would be a net positive galaxy-wide no matter what happens to them. Grim? Yes. Heartless? Yes. But again, Luthen is not wrong The fancy lad arguing with Mothma is Krennic. He’s the one who gave Dedra the Ghorman job in s2e1, for the emperor’s energy project When Bail (Benjamin Bratt) said “you’re family now” the ‘you’ was Mon and Perrin, their daughter’s in-laws are throwing the party. He’s not related to mothma or sculdun

Joshua Something

Not emotionally ready for what’s to come after this.

Michael Rashid

The Emperor gerrymandered the midterms. Where have I seen that one before?

Michael M

Important line that people often gloss over, Mon's husband complains that there are 80 new senators suddenly. Definitely a culling/replacement of those who didn't toe the line the Emperor has set.

Hollow

Krennic is like Harry from Mad Men. He bullshit his way into a high position that he made up. The guy has a fragile ego and middle-manager energy and wears a ridiculous custom-made cape everywhere he goes. Kinda like how Syril alters the collars of his clothes. Krennic is an evil nasty guy, no two ways about it, but if he wasn’t a space Nazi I’d almost find him adorable with how pathetic he is.

My Toasty Toast

Knowing you two - if you haven't filmed already, you probably want to plan on watching at least the next two episodes back to back.

Chris Eggert

I see where you're coming from, but I think the setup was actually there. We get Cassian asking Luthen to help get Bix out of 'that dark place,' and then Partagaz hands Lonni the exact location of Gorst’s new torture center. That shot of Lonni looking at the camera and the tower lighting up is basically the confirmation that the intel moved. Seeing Gorst in the building right before the rescue ties it all together—it’s not sloppy, it’s just the Rebel spy network actually working.

César Mongez

The next 2 arc's will put Andor into a category very few shows achieve. Masterpiece.

Stephen Koroneho

Bix's revenge did feel a bit sloppily written imo. For a show that's been so meticulous about showing the details that go into a plan, the fact that Bix just suddenly appears inside the torture room did feel a bit jarring. It's a huge moment for her character, and I think it deserved the same level of attention to detail as everything else, rather than being tacked-on at the end of the episode.

Father of the Year

Director Krennic is probably in the top 10 highest-ranking individuals in the Imperial military structure, and that’s including Emperor Palpatine, Darth Vader, and Grand Moff Tarkin, the big three.

Darrach

Krennic is the guy who put Dedra in charge of Ghorman. The character that Benjamin Bratt plays is the father of Leia from the original movies. He’s replacing another actor, but the character is a Senator who was heavily involved before the events of the show and brought Mon Mothma into the fold to work against the Empire. Also love some peak Kleya scenes!

My Toasty Toast

The costumes and sets in this show are incredible. Every time Mon shows up with a new dress, Im in awe

Random thoughts: I find it kind of interesting how often the line "Look at Me!" gets repeated. I wonder why. The mission with Cass and Bix came from Luthen after Cass told Luthen to figure out the Bix problem. The intel for that came from Loni hence why we got the scene where Partagaz spoke with Loni and Dedra's former attendant. Loni even pawned the task on the other guy to get plausible deniability. The guy in Sculdan's art collection is Director Krennic. He appeared in the first episode of season 2 leading the Ghorman plan. You can tell what rank somebody in the empire is by how many colorful badges they have on their uniform. Another fun lore fact. Krennic has a rivalry with 'Grand Moth Tarkin' (another very high ranked empire guy). Same Tarkin that caused the massacre on Ghorman where there is now a monument on the plaza. I like how Krennic throws a slight dig at Tarkin on S2E1 by saying anyone not in that room is not privilege to the information he's sharing...including Tarkin. Both characters play a bigger role in the movie and in the series in general.

JustAMeloPancake

Benjamin Bratt (the guy from Miss Congeniality) is playing Bail Organa (Princess Leia’s [the female lead of the original movies from the 70’s and 80’s] dad) in this series. He’s actually replacing another actor (Jimmy Smitts) who had scheduling issues or something and couldn’t be on the show

Dean

Anton Lesser's performance in this and his line delivery made Partagaz one of my favourite characters.

Spacedone

I won’t spoil and just add to what others have said that Director Krennic (the guy at the art show) is in the upper ranks of the Empire and in charge of some important projects in their Weapons Research and Development Division

Dean

I think that if Luthen's amazing monologue was the thesis of how the cause is advanced his interractions with Kassian and Bix are the antithesis. Revolutions aren't lonely endevours they demand people (somewhat insane as Saw said in the last episode) to organize and build trust. It is so telling as you said that when Mon asked about Vel, Luthen thought there has to be an ulterior motive. It is tragic that Luthen can't even envision the Sunrise he talks in his speech. Just what has to be removed for it to be realized. P.S I have to shout out somewhre Anton Lesser as Leo Partagaz, amazing performance of the bureaucratic villain PS 2 I think given the environment we live in and your tastes you would enjoy Dr Stangelove (or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love The Bomb) by Kubrik an amazing darkish comedy.

broken king

Just enjoy the ride with y'all, final 2 arcs of the show. All gas no brakes from now on🔥

Raphgod7

I love Krennic, man, dude is such a diva. Every scene with him is a treasure.

Jah_Rule_95

+1 for Shawshank Redemption

Clay F

I like the joke between Luthen and Kleya as they were leaving the party. A rare moment of genuine levity in both their lives.

Damien Fenton

Krennic the guy you said was significant was introduced in S2 E1 at the Genocide conference with Dedra. He was running the presentation

Sam

I love Vel dressing down the Ghorman moron. It was nice to see a character in a property like Star Wars have a very *human* reaction to that situation. Usually with properties like this, she’d try to kill him or give him some bullshit pep talk about it being for a greater good or whatever. No! She makes him face the truth of what he did in a way that showed real grief and anger, but locked in with the control that we’ve seen in her character since Aldhani

Dean

Who doesn’t love kleya though right 😅

James Anthony

I love Milena's fascination with Kleya. The actress who plays her is Elizabeth Dulau. A fun fact about her is that this is her first ever role. How in the world does someone land their first ever role opposite Stellan Skarsgard in a mega-budget show? Clearly casting made the right call because I agree with Milena: Kleya is awesome.

Michael M

So the guy you were unsure about is Director Krennic. You saw him in S2 ep 1. He’s the guy who organised the meeting about ghorman.

James Anthony

“Do as I say >:|” yes ma’am 🫡

Joshua Something

Well, just finished binging the 4 jjk episodes and I'm depressed, so why not add to the depression 🙃

sand_fl

The next movie poll should include the greatest horror-comedy of all time: The live action Avatar movie from 2010, The Last Airbender :D But seriously, I would love to see Shawshank Redemption, The Hunt (2012), A Silent Voice or Suzume next :D

Robert Dirk H.

That truly is an incredible line.

Damien Fenton

The Wire and Andor both reveal great truths about actual life. That's why they are so impactful. We actually might be revisiting The Wire in a little bit. The Emmys recently announced a new Legacy Award category that will honor groundbreaking TV shows that have had a lasting cultural impact. The minimum requirements are 5 seasons and 60 episodes, which is exactly how many seasons and episodes The Wire had.

Michael M

It’s ending sooon :(( you have to watch the movie !

Alex Anguiano

Legendary refresh 🙌

Sam

I hate, HATE, that one of my favorite lines and deliveries from the series is from ISB Partagaz. “Calibrate your enthusiasm!”

My Toasty Toast

Dr. Gorst has to struggle to remember who Bix is while Bix suffers nightmares because of him and what he did to her, resorting to drugs to numb the pain. "The axe forgets but the tree remembers." Love how Andor circles back to its central themes. The Imperial system grinds people down, destroys their lives, then discards and forgets about them once it extracts what it needs from them. But if they survive, the victims don't ever forget what was done to them, nor do they ever stop dreaming of a day when retribution comes for those responsible.

Nubile Reptile

I really should "calibrate my enthusiasm"... BUT I'M NOT GONNA! IT'S ANDOR TIME BABY!!!!
