I love Severance and it is still ongoing, so we don't how the show gonna end. But Andor (combined with S2) just resonated with me personally more. Since the girls have already watched Ep12, I'll say I almost think of Nemik's manifesto weekly and getting inspired by the characters of the show. The themes, and the characters of Andor will probably stay with me longer (like in 10 or 20 years)

Great reactions and insights! Thank you. I do agree that your Severance reaction and commentary was amazing. Best among all reactors and the on the spot discussions were better than some Severance analysis essays. The you just got what the show wanted to say at every beat and turn was so nice to see. 🥹👏Also it was a bit unexpected how well you understood Severance. Pleasantly surprised.
For Andor, I already knew you'd get it and so far really enjoying your journey.
So I can't compare. Both journeys have been top tier. Thank you.

Also another thing that I liked is yoyr analysis on hiw the system wants you to see violence. It wants you to view interpersonal murder as repelling, but not one caused by the system making conditions so bad that leads to avoidable murders. Engels wrote about that concept as 'social murder' whitch unlike interpersonal murder is legal.
For a more poetic understanding of this I suggest everyone to read the brilliant monologue of Mark Twain on the 'two reigns of terror ' (part of a novel of his) commenting on the events of the French revolution and its radical phase.

Not that the Emmys matter or anything, but Andor taking home Best Writing this year was deeply satisfying.

I remember reading somewhere that he essentially waited until the tractor beam reached full power so his countermeasures would be more effective. Luthen is a cool headed tactical genius

Since we hear in this episode that Mon went through these traditional teachings that her daughter is now doing and considering she went into an arranged marriage when she was a teenager, can we assume that her parents were conservative/traditional? (Also rich of course.)
I also wondered whether Vel might have been (further) radicalised by Cinta at some point in the past because I think she kind of repeated some of Cinta's back to Mon when they talked in an earlier episode (the cause comes first or something like that?), but given that Vel apparently didn't do the traditional school stuff, maybe she was rebellious from a younger age? Or her parents were more open minded? (Also interesting that she doesn't seem to be out as gay (or bi?) to everyone since Perrin asked her about finding a husband.)

55:15 Talking about the acting, I was upset at how this show was snubbed twice by White Lotus (same with Better Call Saul) because the academy can only relate to rich snobs. Even Tony Gilroy had some choice words about it that Genevieve O’Reilly (Mon Mothma) was not even nominated. At the end of the day though here I am talking about first world problems

I love the choice of having Maarva die a normal unspectacular death. It's like most people die. Sudden, out of sight and without closure. It doesn't make her any less of a rebel. It is just another example of choosing realism over romanticizing it for drama. She did what she could in her condition. I like to think the show is named after her. She gave Cassian her family name and set him on his path.

No one asked but if it was me picking, my choices would probably be:
Long Live Action - The Sopranos
Short Live Action - Severance, maybe Andor by the end
Long Animated - Hunter X Hunter or Attack On Titan
Short Animated - Vinland Saga

Really nice deep and thoughtfull reaction to an excellent setup episode. I loved how you touched Lyda's (Mothma's daughter) reactionary traditionalist views as a response to the antagonistic relationship with her progressive estranged mother. The fandom is kind of unsympathetic to Lyda but I really think that they are not seeing it from her PoV. Also I like how it captures the second generation's diaspora conservatism. As we say in Greece the kids of diaspora are the worst in the sense that they adopt the nationalist and Orthodox naratives far more per capita than people that grow up inside the country. Similarly Lyda and her Chandrillan friends (the home planet where she is from) use the ultra traditionalist cults and traditions as a way to keep a seperate identity and belonging in the diaspora.

So your favorite Short Show is either Severance or Andor? I thought Band of Brothers would be close too 🧐
If I check the overview:
https://imgur.com/a/lm-reactions-2020-2025-specials-KA1vod6
My prediction for the other 3 slots are:
- Better Caul Saul
- Frieren
- Vinland Saga, Attack on Titan, FMAB or Haikyuu (It's really hard to say, but I don't think it's Hunter x Hunter)
The worst are easy:
- The Boys / The Fall of the House of Usher / The 100 (does that count to the reactions?)
- Cyberpunk Edgerunners
- Death Note
I think there is no Long Show they didn't enjoy

The reason Luthen couldn’t move his ship during the confrontation with the Imperial ship (called a Star Destroyer btw) is that he had a tractor beam on him. Tractor beams appear in science fiction as a type of device or tool that can pull objects towards itself. He was locked in place essentially.

Generally speaking, it's a good rule not to watch any interviews with actors/creators when the show is already fully released. You have no way of knowing what spoilers you might encounter, and that interview you mentioned is full of spoilers for season 2.

As usual, Luthen is so cool. Great interaction with Saw. Love how each time Saw tries to exclaim or veer off course, Luthen attempts to refocus and redirect Saw. Saw's emotion vs Luthen's steady calm is a great dynamic.
"Do we let Kreegyr go down and play the long game, or do we warn him and throw away a source that's taken years to cultivate?"
"You have people everywhere, don't you?"
"You're avoiding the question."
"All of your sources..."
"Try to concentrate."
"Maybe there's someone here with me."
"You're wasting time."
"Why wouldn't you?"
"You're avoiding the choice."
And then Luthen flies up in space and is casually a badass.
That last phone call to Cassian hits so incredibly hard. It's that deep dull pain that sits in your chest. As you get older it's a call everyone experiences with news of relative or immediate family's passing. Cassian's stunned state is very relatable. I'm not sure if it's intentional but even his little grammatical slip up "Yea, everything ok" instead of everything's ok. I read it as a tell for how shaken he is that little pieces his second language fall away. The music and cinematography of him on the beach is so beautiful and sad.
