I like the discussion by the end where Denji having freedom would be the true "normal" that's being sought. Denji is bound to others and I think the idea of freedom was and is appealing to pochita because pochita and devils' existence in general is bound by the fear of others. The idea of freedom and living a normal life is something that's abstract. By principle of being alive, people's freedom is bound to others. If nobody and nothing else existed, there would be nothing to think about. For example, I can't freely think of a colour that doesn't exist because I haven't been exposed to it. Because freedom and knowledge is always bound to what is external, dreaming about being unbound is pretty cool. I could be wrong in what the mangaka intended, but my interpretation is fun to me.

I mean...yes, obviously. Makima is grooming Denji to become her own personal slave by dangling sexual favors in front of him, it's not portrayed as something good happening to him. As for Himeno, it's too early for me to say anything about her motivations.

Don’t care what people say.. that’s shit was borderline sexual harassment lol people forget Denji is a minor… while the main character has zero understanding of what’s really going on because all his life has been nothing but hell. At the same time it’s fucking depressing how some of the female characters are constantly harassing Denji… now I wish I had a Japanese friend because I’m also curious how Japan views sexual dynamics between people.. specifically people who are not even 18.

I completely agree. But I do think some ppl truly just think it is fan service and miss the whole context. I think ppl have the right to feel uncomfortable if they don’t like watching it but something being uncomfortable bc of a scene doesn’t automatically mean the scene is done badly, It could just mean it’s not your taste or something they don’t like watching. But instead of thinking that I think some ppl just jump to the conclusion that it’s just fan service and badly written.

I think it's notable that when Denji challenged the gross leech devil to a "Dream Battle" last episode to proved his dream of boobs is superior to more grandiose dreams, he loses and needs to be saved by Aki. I think it's great foreshadowing to how he would never have been satisfied after achieving that goal. And this is all reminiscent of his speech in episode 1 about feeling guilty for wanting a better life when he already had happiness living with Pochita. The conflict of wanting more for yourself versus being content to live in the moment and enjoy the life you have is the beating heart of chainsaw man for me and it really became explicit in this episode. "Am I always going to realize I was happier during the chase?" such a grounded theme for such an insane series

And there's another portion of the viewership that IS teenage boys who don't perceive it as SA and more as wish fulfilment because society has this tendency of brushing off the SA of young boys. In the manga when Makima is saying the casualties from the Gun devil, there's a breakdown of the deaths from a few countries, which I feel make you understand more how quick and destructive (he/she/it idk) was. I love that Fujimoto lets Denji reach his goal so anticlimactically because his mental process of not feeling fulfilled is 100x more interesting than us watching him trying to grab boobs the whole series haha
