I know this is a late reply, but I honestly think they would enjoy a lot of Jjk, primarily the characters. The author was inspired a lot by hunter x hunter and it shows a lot in the writing, and while it's not super plot heavy for the first season there is a big focus on character writing, which LM reactions really enjoy. And I disagree with the comment that the power system is convoluted and confusing, it's basically just nen with a spooky twist, so if they where able to understand and get behind nen, I don't see why cursed energy would be a problem. So maybe jjk isn't for everyone, but I feel like a lot of these comments are just shooting it down for being overhyped. I personally am enjoying jjk up to where it is in the manga, it's certainly way too overhyped but so is chainsaw man, hype doesn't always mean bad. So idk, maybe they would or wouldn't enjoy it, but they like hxh, so it's worth a recommendation I'd say.

2024-06-12 03:32:13 +0000 UTCI’m surprised to hear LM suggest that only Gon and not Killua had a major storyline (and character development) during the Chimera Ant arc. The arc was just as consequential for Killua: it’s where he finally began to reckon with the trauma of his upbringing (facing and overcoming Illumi’s deep-seated conditioning and manipulation) and to put into action everything he’s learned from Gon about himself and other people (making friends with Ikalgo, which it must be noted set off a chain reaction of events that culminated in the King remembering Komugi). Chimera Ant at once showed us the best and worst of Gon and Killua’s friendship—why it’s the best thing that ever happened to Killua, and also why it needed to change. That one note aside, near-perfect reaction. Rightfully lots of excitement for this arc, which I think will go a long way to giving LM some much-needed catharsis and closure for various long-running plot and character threads.

2024-06-11 05:15:49 +0000 UTCRegarding the manga coming back. the anime ends at chapter 339, and the current most recently released chapter is 400. Recently Togashi (the mangaka) came back to twitter and started posting progress updates on new chapters, as of today he has drawn up to page 9 of chapter 411 and his assistants have finished working on 401-405, and are finishing up inserting dialogue in 406. Usually he releases chapters in batches of 10 then takes a break that ranges anywhere from 6 months to 2 years on average, with one time he went away for 4 years. If he keeps up his current pace though he will have finished drawing/inking up until the end of 420 or further by the time 410 finishes publishing, so there's a good chance we may get more than 10 soon which is very good news.

In fact, based on legacy - he prioritized the greater good of the world over that of his relationship with his son, all the while giving his son the tools to absolutely speedrun and maximize his potential if he so chose, of his free will. As a man and as a mentor he's absolutely succeeded in the highest order, but it's impossible to deny that he sacrificed being a good father to do so. Granted, given how he thinks as shown in this episode and how things tend to go as he plans (as told by Razor, Kite, List, and as shown in this episode) it's very possible given his own nature and Mito's - he decided this was the best course of action. That however doesn't absolve him of his absence, nor does it mean people can't hold it against him. It's reasonable. With that said, I do tend to skew more towards your opinion and think in the grand scheme of things the extent to which people have beef with him is a bit irrational, given who we already know him to be in the worldly context - not even considering...you know.

2024-06-11 01:15:16 +0000 UTCyeah, he's probably judging them purely based on aura. hisoka, as someone who has a "tricky" ability to deal with, has probably defeated opponents technically "stronger" than him. that bunny girl could be a similar fighter, who could maybe even defeat the zodiacs hisoka has given more points to. i'm sure hisoka knows that too, but the audience tends to take the characters' judgements and opinions as pure facts.

The tape was left for an older Gon who became an hunter, Ging says he doesn't want to see him because he is ashamed and to emphasize the difficulty of this particular hunt but that doesn't mean he doesn't want to see him. Take Netero for instance. Hisoka just knew he was strong by reputation, but he had absolutely no damn clue he stood no chance when he said he wanted to fight him. That harmless looking Bunny girl, who seems to be the “weakest” Zodiac most likely has a Nen ability that’s so problematic to deal with, she’d probably molly wop Hisoka in a 1 v 1. If Ging wasn't interested in being a father he would have not created Greed Island to train Gon and he wouldn't have not designed this "hunt" . 2024-06-11 00:42:32 +0000 UTCsomething that i missed the first time i watched the show was that pariston was fully threatening to kill gon. after ging says he wants to run for chairman, pariston brings up his dying son and asks if he should go "visit" him and worries about him dying after the visit. ging's reaction to a guy threatening to murder his son if he runs for chairman is.. interesting, but so in-line with everything we know about him. i'm sure he's confident that pariston won't be able to get to him because gon has some strong friends protecting him 24/7, or maybe he even intends to stop pariston's attempts, if he makes them. but yeah the nonchalant reaction coupled with the fact he clearly does not intend to visit him.. lol

I’m always impressed how it manages to generate a surreal sort of nostalgia for earlier characters and arcs even if you’re watching the anime for the first time.

2024-06-11 00:26:01 +0000 UTCA thing about Ging being glossed over is that while he is like a man-child, one way that he isn't is that he has fully acknowledged that he's selfish and a bad person. He literally said so in his tape to Gon. No 12 year old child would have that self-awareness. A lot of adults don't even have that self-awareness. But otherwise, most of the observation of his characterization is mostly correct (kinda). The show knows this, it's not glazing him as a outstanding person, from this episode it's easy to see that. Everyone treats him like he's a dick. He also has *some* attachment or openess to Gon or he wouldn't have done the greed island thing, but he has also openly said he doesn't want to see Gon because he's ashamed. He's selfish but it isn't as binary as it's painted as. And no, of course he isn't evil based on what we know or see so far. In a show with actual pedophiles and mass murders (phantom troupe, actual callous murderers, gets a warmer reaction lul) the reaction to ging was always pretty hilarious and almost meme territory within the fandom.

In his first message to Gon he says he doesn't know how he could face Gon after leaving him and calls himself a terrible person, and one of his friends on Greed Island even call him out on being too bashful and shy to see Gon. This isn't confirmed but I've always believed Ging has also never met his father because no one has ever mentioned Gon's grandfather and because (something else further in the manga) This obviously doesn't absolve him for never seeing Gon but I think it comes from a different place than simply not caring

Regarding the episode, all I will say is that it should be interesting to see what you guys think of Gin by the end but your initial impressions of him are interesting and I will just leave it at that lol

QUIT being a Hunter and assume the responsibility for your child. There is nothing that forces him to be one. Ging is following desires to the fullest. The result of that is him being a deadbeat and renouncing fatherhood. I do like Ging and appreciate what his character brings and will bring to the story, but these facts are incontrovertible

It's a very spot on analysis and I think this arc is the way it is because Togashi very specifically wanted to invoke that feeling. The chimera ant mission was gon and killua's first actual mission as hunters. When you're on mission like that, the rest of the world seems to fade away. You need to be fully present and mindful of what's going on. And in the opposite way, when you come back, the time you spent starts to feel like it wasn't even real. Being reintroduced to your old life, it feels like, did all of that war stuff really happen? You participated in battles? Fought through life or death situations? What do you mean, look, my high school friends are right there, so surely that is real and not the other stuff? But of course it doesn't vanish like a dream. It affects you forever, some people more than others. Sometimes in good ways, often in bad ways.

I think JJK actually doesn't go down the path most shonen anime go and I find the writing more unique so I don't think it's predictableat at all. I don't think it would have gotten this popular if it was just animation. The writer has a way of conveying deep messages with less hand holding dialogue compared to some other shows that still fail to do so with countless hours. I think the girls should try it. I think they'll find enjoyment in it just like they have in many different shows up until now

The plot is too predictable and the only character development is when the character die. That's is a type of show more for hardcore anime fans. A better recomendation is Chainsaw's Man. At least has a better writing.

But just a request, I REALLY think you should consider reading his backstory before the last episode. Even if you don’t plan on reading the rest. It’s like a prologue for everything that’s gonna happen with him, and it’s going to make the last discussion so much deeper since you’ll be able to comment on where the manga can go with proper context.
