DAA) Chapter 2 Part 5

“Status… Status…” As I nibbled on my last ration, I kept opening and closing my status screen. I also figured out how to get rid of the notification screens. I guess they should be called by just saying close. But here is the real kicker. If I say close or status without thinking about the windows, it doesn’t do anything.

“I guess this is it.” I grabbed the cloth I stripped from my shirt to use as an eye covering and wrapped it around my head before tying it off and making sure my eyes were fully covered. Once I did that, I got the rest of my gear together, checked my ammo, and then geared up and made my way toward the crevice exit.

I used my sight to look out and around the area before officially exiting the crevice. The last thing I wanted as to be attacked by some strange monster thing before I even had a chance to fight.

I do have to say, though, this new sight of mine was very handy for dark places. I could see the outline of even the smallest bug off in the distance, something I would not have been able to see with my own eyes before. Not that there were many small bugs in this place. Only these round things that seemed to feed off the mushrooms that grew at the edge of the rocky walls.

I am not sure what they are, nor do I care, but they seemed to be around the size of the tip of my pinky finger. If it came down to it, I could always grab a bunch of those and hope they are not poisonous.

I took the left path towards where we saw the spider monster on the ceiling before. Cap and the others also went left when they left the crevice, so if I wanted to find them, I would need to go this way.

“Fuck it stinks…” I wrinkled my nose as I got closer to where Bryan had died. When I arrived, there was a heavy stench of something rotting, as well as a large corpse. I guess it was lying on top of a spike made of rock that stuck up out of the ground.

To the side of it was half a body. I am not sure whose body it was, though. This was one of the times I kind of wished I could see color, but sadly I can’t. I inspected the corpse a bit more and came to the conclusion it was the spider since there was nothing on the ceiling nor the holes, which seemed to be the spider’s nest. There were many webs within those holes but nothing else.

The main thing I noticed about this spider was the large slice in its abdomen. It seemed someone had sliced it open. Knowing Cap, he would have done this to grab the dog tags from within. The only thing is, though, I do not know who the legs belong to that are lying next to the spider. But from what I can tell, there are some footsteps leading off toward the other side of the room.

What gets me, though is I heard no gun fire this entire time. Not a single shot echoed through the cave. This is strange to me since I could hear the sounds of monsters’ roars echoing through the cave system and could even hear them when I was in the crevice. It’s almost as if the sounds of gunfire are being masked out for some reason.

The spider I just passed had many bullet holes in it, and there were shells on the ground, so I knew that a battle took place there. But then again, this might have been from before, and Thomas and Carlos did not notice that the spider had died. Or it could have succumbed to its wounds after the fact. There are many possibilities, and going by how much the corpse stank, my guess is it is the latter.

If that is the case, though, where are the other three? Let’s say the spider had died that same day that Bryan had died, where did Cap and the others go? Like right now, I am staring at a strange rabbit looking monster that is kicking at the wall to the far side of the stone room I am in. If this monster was here when Cap and the others left then wouldn’t they have come across it?

I stopped and sunk into deep thought. If I was Cap, instead of fighting, I would have tried to avoid it as much as possible to save ammunition. If this is the case, those three might have been going room to room with out firing a single shot. I can only hope this is the case. But at the same time, I wish they would shoot at some point so I know they are alive.
