DAA) Chapter 1 Part 5
Added 2024-07-15 23:10:18 +0000 UTCMy eyes scanned the monsters in the darkness. It was hard to tell what exactly it looked like but my eyes were not scanning for its looks but something that looked vulnerable. It took a few seconds before I saw something that looked like a bulge on a smooth surface that reflected the dim lighting differently. “Cap, top of what seems to be it’s head a small bulge, aim for my fire!”
“Got it! Go all out!”
With Cap’s okay, I lined up my sights and let it go. I kind of wish we had brought night vision along with us. But since we wanted to keep a light load and we were not supposed to be fighting much of anything, we came without. This was supposed to be nothing but an investigation.
My bullets rang through the air until they hit their target. Sparks flew as I missed the object I was aiming for before, finally, one hit its target, and a loud cry of pain came from the monster.
“Gugeeee!!!!!”
The loud screeching sound hurt our ears, but we continued our onslaught. From what I could tell by how the monster was now moving, I had hit its eye. I can only guess this because it was veering more to the left. Which means I hit its right eye. “Cap go about two feet down from where I hit it just now. It should have a second eye. If we can blind it I can sneak up on it and finish it off.”
“How sure are you?” Cap did not look at me when he asked this, but from his voice, he was pretty much saying that if I did not have a hundred percent certainty we would not be going with my plan, but I was one hundred percent certain.
“One hundred.” I replied firmly as I went to stand up and readied myself to charge forward.
“You heard her! Give her cover fire. I will take out the things other eye.” Cap seemed to understand what my meaning without me needing to say anything. With his okay, I jumped over the rock and began making my way over to the monster that was now thrashing about.
I heard Cap fire and another scream from the monster which told me he had hit his target. I took this chance to rush forward. When I got closer to the monster, I finally got to see its red-shelled body. I guess my assumption on the type of monster it was was right. It was a centipede. Hundreds of legs were under its body, each one now thrashing around. I did not need to get too close as I made my way up to its head. Both its eyes were shot out, which made me smile. To think I could match Cap in the darkness like this.
I got up on a rock near its head and waited for it to level it a bit before making my jump over, landing on it and grabbing its antenna to stabilize myself before pushing the tip of my gun into its eye, leaning to the side, and pulling the trigger. I had to make sure I angeled myself just right so I could hit its brain.
It kicked its head up, causing me to fall back down along its wide back, but it soon dropped back to the ground with a loud thud, Its body collapsing under itself.
I climbed to my feet and let out a sigh of relief only to hear the sound of wind whisking by and everything going dark as I felt a burning sensation across my face. “Fuck!” I cried out as I clasped my hand over my eyes.
“Aiya!” I heard Cap and the others yell out. I could hear their hurried footsteps as well as gunfire off to my left. It seemed there was more than one monster in this area. I had been too careless.
“Aiya, how are you?” Cap was the first to reach me as he pulled me into his arms and pulled my hand away from my face.
“Cap, how is it? I can’t see shit.” I had a gut feeling. The burning sensation was now turning to pain. And I could feel blood dripping from my eyes.
“Aiya… We need to disinfect your wounds and cover your eyes. I am sorry. I should have kept a better eye out.”
“It’s fine…”
“Cap we need to move!” I heard Bryan call out. “This fucking thing is quick! We can’t hit it!”
“Then let’s go. You guys surround us. I will carry Aiya. We need to find a safe corner some where.”
I felt my body lift off the ground as Cap picked me up. I never thought there would be a day when I would end up blind like this. The idea of not being able to see never ever crossed my mind.
But here I was, needing to be carried because I had been blinded by an unseen attack. This cave, no… this place is no cave. It is more like a dungeon you would hear about in fantasy novels. This place was not normal. I am starting to think we are not even on Earth anymore.
“Haha! I got it!” I heard Carlos yell out. “Shit! I got that [Level up!] thing too!”
Now that Carlos mentioned it. While I could not see, I could still see the [Level up!] window…
“Aiya, how you doing?” Cap asked softly as I was set down on a hard surface.
“Bout as good as I can get. How is it? Are the completely gone?” I had to ask. If there was no saving my eyes, then there was nothing we could do. I wasn’t going to start crying about it since I knew my brothers would not leave me hanging.
“Aiya… Yeah. I need to clean the wounds. It will hurt like hell. Then I will wrap you up.”
“Got it. Do what you need to do. I be damned if I die here.”
