PKOTA) Chapter 2 Part 1

“Hah!” My sword once more cut through the air as I twirled around mid air. I was covered in sweat but the fact that my body moved so naturally proved that my training was paying off. Then again it would be strange if my body didn’t move the way I wanted after all these years.

I landed on the ground and lifted my sword, letting it come to rest on my shoulder only to hear a clapping sound behind me.

“Jade, it really impresses me how you are able to do this even in this heat. But also need to say that you look quite dashing when you have such a serious face on. It’s no wonder some of the girls at school call you the Princess Knight.” Momo’s words made me frown.

“What do you mean Princess Knight?” I was actually quite confused since I had never heard of this nickname.

“Oh? You didn’t know? Your silver hair and your blue eyes that sparkle like gems. When you help out any of the girls in school with anything you have this aura about you that makes you seem quite noble. How many girls have you protected from being picked on by the boys? When you combine the two the name Princess Knight stuck.” Momo chuckled.

Sadly if I wanted to argue it would be hard. I do help the girls out a lot. Living on the outskirts of the city has created a bunch of little hoodlums in school. I am not saying all boys are bad but there are quite a few that do not know how to keep their hands to themselves. It’s different if the girl is willing but many are just being annoying by slapping butts or flipping skirts things you would do when you are like seven or eight years old. Child pranks.

“At least its not something awful. Come on let’s get these solar panels set up.” I used my shirt to wipe my sweat which got a whistle from Momo before heading back into the house after I sheathed my sword.

We worked well into the night before we finally finished hooking things up. It was a little rough since I had to run the cords up the wall and across the ceiling before drilling a hole in the basement stairwell to run the cords down to the circuit breaker that was already set up for it.

“Good, the batteries are trying to charge. The real test will be tomorrow.” The cabinet for the batteries held twelve in total. I can only hope that it will work well when the time comes to use it.

“I need a shower!” Momo complained but she was right. I needed one as well.

“Use the shower on the first floor I will use the one down here.” I guess that was the good thing about having multiple bathrooms. And I also wanted to give the second water pump a good test to make sure it was working properly.

“Aw, you don’t want to shower with me?” Momo gave me a wink which made me push her to wards the stairs.

“I really do wonder if you were a man in your previous life.” Momo only stuck her tongue out at me as we made our way to the second floor to get clothes. To be honest it was too hot to be horsing around like we normally would.

After another cool shower, I met back up with Momo in the living room where she had on a long t-shirt that went down to her mid thigh. Her black hair was still slightly wet but so was mine. It felt much cooler to have wet hair at this time.

‘There will be a rolling blackout tonight…’ I paused when I heard the news. This was a bad sign. Rolling blackouts were normally only down when the power grid was failing. “Momo, call your parents now and tell them if they have any issues to come here. Especially if the power is fully out. I know you have solar too but that will only last so long.”

My basement was cool enough to not need ac running due to its depth, but it was different for the first and second floors where it would need an cooling system to keep it from getting too hot.

“I will.” Momo sat up and got her phone before pausing and saying: “Momo, thanks.”

“Why are you thanking me? You and your parents are like family to me. There is no way in hell would I would leave you guys with out a place to go to escape the heat. Give them a call, I will go grab some blankets and some clothes. We should probably stay in the basement tonight.” Momo nodded as she held the phone to her ear. I walked up to the second floor and began getting things ready. I even got a few extra blankets and pillows just in case Momo’s parents needed to come over.

 By the time I had gather everything the lights in the house suddenly turned off making me frown. “You couldn’t have waited until I was down stairs!?” I know I was complaining for nothing since the lights quickly turned back on as the backup solar system kicked in. But still.

“Momo, help me bring these things down stairs. I am going to go shut everything off upstairs. I only want the fridge and freezer running on the first floor. I think it will be best to minimize power usage for the time being.” I know the batteries will charge back up but I still wanted to keep my solar system from working too hard.

“My parents said they will be over in the morning. They plan to make it through the night. They want to get things together as well.” Momo answered back as she walked over to me and grabbed the blankets and pillows from my arms. “My mother told me to tell you thanks for thinking of them.”

I smiled and waved her off before turning around and going upstairs.
