LZR Chapter 6 Part 1) Xiaguang Town
Added 2024-06-19 17:09:08 +0000 UTCLife on the road can be harsh on the soul. Enduring such a long trip will eat away at a person’s mentality, causing fatigue. But that is only for those who walk the long road ahead without being able to rest. As for me, I have Little Nine and the Nine Heavens Pagoda so I was far from fatigued.
This was why I still had a bright smile on my face as I stood in front of the tall walls, looking at the long line of people coming and going. Most large towns do not allow people to fly around. Only those from the Academy or nobles would be able to do such a thing. As for people like me, who were nothing more than a commoner in the eyes of others, we can only look up with envy. However, I am far from being able to ride any swords or step into the sky like those of the formation establishment realm or core formation realm. So even if I was from such prestige at this time I would still need to walk like everyone else.
Many people were waiting in line. Some were even merchants who used clothed covered wagons to move goods. There were even a few carriages as well. To get into town took time. I am not sure if this was because Tiandao Academy was here or not. My memories did not give me much information about the mortal world. Only the things I needed to know. The rest was up to me to figure out.
I sat on a rock with a paper fan in my hand, waving it at my Mother, who sat beside me. I wish I could have her rest in the pagoda, but because we were entering town, we both needed to register just in case. The last thing I wanted was for my mother to be jailed or kicked out of town because she was not registered.
From what I understood of those in line, you were given a token upon entering town. This token seemed to also be made of wood but not heavenswood. This one only had a tracking array carved into it. You were supposed to have it on you at all times when walking around town. How they knew if you had one on you or not was another story.
But this high security made my mind rest at ease, knowing that if I were to buy a small courtyard here for my mother, that she would be somewhat safe with how strict things were here. Of course, this was my current wishful thinking. My first task was to hopefully enter town with out issue. It seemed you needed silver to enter town.
“Ruo’er, you should use the fan as well.” My mother’s voice came from my side.
I looked up at her and shook my head. “I’m fine. I am able to ward off the heat better than you.”
It was hot out, but it did not bother me much. This was only because I was in the qi gathering realm. This bit of heat would not affect me. But my mother was sweating. She had no way to ward off the heat at this time.
I chatted with my mother while listening to the people around us. They were not talking about anything important, but the bits of information I did gain from listening told me everything I needed to know about entering town.
When we reached the entrance a few hours later, a guard walked forward. “Welcome to Xiaguang. What is the purpose of your visit?”
I raised an eyebrow. I did not think they would ask such a question. I thought for a moment before taking out the token Bai Yu gave me. “I am a little early, but I am here for the entrance test for Tiandao Academy.”
The guard looked me up and down suspiciously before reaching out for the token, but I pulled it back and put on an innocent expression. “Sir, trying to take something from a young girl is not very nice.”
“You! I did not plan to do such a thing. I was only checking the authenticity of the token!” The guard’s face turned red. I couldn’t help but chuckle as I held the token out. He went to grab it and pull it out of my hand, but I held it firm.
In situations like this, it was better to stand your ground. I was not doing anything illegal and was protecting what was mine. So, by not outright handing my token to the guard, I was in no way breaking any laws unless this guard tried to use his authority to pursue the matter. But by the looks of it and the man’s strength, he was not someone I had to worry about.
“Let go!” The guard’s face was bright red. He had been tugging on the token for almost a minute. I could tell he was mad.
“You said you only needed to check it, not take it from me,” I replied innocently. “You only need to touch the token to know if it is legitimate or not. Plus, why are you even asking for the token? The price to enter the town is only a few silver, which I planned to use a qi pill to pay the fee for.”
“Wang Wei, what is the hold-up?” A man walked over with a scrutinizing gaze.
“Captain!”
