VL) Chapter 2 Part 2

“How was it?” As I entered the living room, I was met with Nina’s warm, welcoming smile. While I do hate the stabs I get all the time when she talks to me, I can feel that she had no ill will towards me.

I guess I had gotten lucky. If I had followed her and she turned out worse than the other people, then maybe my life would have been forfeited, but now, as I stand here moving my toes in the soft cloud-like rug underfoot, I see that she really means me no harm and in fact has allowed me to experience things I have only ever dreamed of.

“I-it was good…” I really did not know how to answer correctly. I was now wearing clean clothes and had a clean body and hair. It was more than just good. I felt like a high and mighty princess, but if I were to express my own foolish, childish thoughts, I would probably end up in an embarrassing situation. So, I will keep my answer simple and curt. This way, I won’t need to deal with any strange situations.

“I am glad you liked it. I know the clothes are a little loose, but please bear with it for now. They are my daughter’s spare pajamas. Her chest is slightly bigger,” Nina explained as she waved me over. I could smell something strange in the air. It was a smell I had never smelled before. It was nothing like the smell of an old moldy burger from the trash. This smell actually made my mouth water.

“Lunch is almost done. From what you told me, you had not been eating properly, so I had Milly make something good.” Nina pointed towards the kitchen, where an older woman with gray hair turned to me and smiled before going back to stirring the pot.

“It’s chicken soup with veggies. You will be on some lighter foods until your body adjusts to more nutritious foods. If you feel unwell at all, let me know. There is no shame in letting someone know you do not feel good. If there is anything you do not know, let me know. If I am not here, you can ask Elara or even Milly over there. She takes care of cooking and cleaning.” Nina explained.

I was not concerned about shame. Embarrassment yes. But not shame. I mean, I used to stick my butt over the edge of my rooftop to piss or shit. I was not afraid of anyone looking up to see me since all they would see was darkness, and if they were unlucky, get a face full of shit or piss.

I wiped the drool at the corner of my mouth before bowing my head slightly. I at least needed to say thanks. “Th-wanks!” I bit my tongue… and here I was, trying my best not to become embarrassed.

“Hehe. This is something I should do. You will be under my care, and I will be your guardian. At least until you graduate from the Royal Academy.” Nina declared before walking behind me and pushing me towards the soft-looking couch. “Sit and relax. Elara will be back soon. Then we can all eat while we get to know each other better.”

I pursed my lips and sat on the couch. As soon as my butt hit the heavenly softness, I sank into it and pretty much melted. Who knew there was something this amazing? This softness, this feeling of floating through the air. I never want to move from this spot ever again.

After a few who knows how long, I cracked an eye when I heard a soft giggle from my side, to see a young girl standing there looking at me in amusement. Although she had the body of a human, she also had ears and a fluffy tail. In other words, she was like me, a halfbreed. While I did wonder who she was, the feeling of the couch was engulfing me, causing me to close my eye once more.

“Mom, I think she is ignoring me.” I heard someone say. It seemed who ever was speaking was being ignored by someone. It sucks being ignored. The guards at the trash dump ignored me quite a bit when I tried to get an extra bag when I saw how many bags were left. Those filthy bastards would always say: if I did them a little service, they would give me a bag or two. Like I would ever stoop so low as to sell myself like that. Although I had seen my fair share of people who did. Not just girls but also boys. Some of those guards had special tastes. At any rate, being ignored by someone was very much annoying. After rejecting them just a few times, they pretended I did not even exist. They were basically children in full-grown bodies.

“Elara, I don’t think she is ignoring you. Did you even say anything to her?” I heard Nina ask.

“I said hello a few times and even sat next to her but she didn’t even respond.” The person I could only guess to be Elara replied. It seemed she had been offended by someone not answering her. For some reason, I have a vague recollection of someone saying something earlier, but I was too busy basking in the comfort of this couch to hear what was being said. But to ignore someone is quite rude. That person should get a good scolding. And if they are a repeat offender, then a punch in the face!

“Elara, I do not think Alicia is ignoring you.” Ah… I will forget everything I just thought about just now. It seems the person in question was none other than me…
