LYWTTA) Understanding That One Method Is Not Always Better
Added 2024-04-08 18:33:18 +0000 UTCLilly’s eyes were blank. It was as if all the life had been drained from her body. She could only stare straight ahead at the runic circle that had appeared behind Yuki as if Yuki was some kind of goddess.
“Yuki, I think Lilly died.” Delia suddenly cut in. Yuki was still explaining things without much thought to her audience.
“Hmm?” Yuki looked at Lilly, who was now half-flopped over, completely lifeless. “Did something happen? Why does she look dead?”
“I think the fact that you have just completely destroyed their entire magic system is the reason,” Delia replied with a chuckle. She really found this to be amusing.
“Ah well, it just seems more like common sense to me than destroying anything. Has no one ever thought of this before? I mean, blindly following the steps one after the other will only lead to slow gains.” At least, this was what Yuki thought.
Math to create a magic system. It was not a bad idea. Once could learn two things at once and could see the benefits it would bring by doing it, making it more fun to learn. This was why people were willing to go into seclusion for so many years at a time when cultivating. Because even though it might be boring you would be able to feel the progress in your body as you worked hard towards your goal.
Both systems had the same kind of benefits. One allowed you to cast more powerful magic. But you had to have the knowledge of math to be able to do it. The other allowed you to work your way to immortality, pushing forward and defying the heavens. But the main goal of both systems, which made them the same, was strength. They would make you stronger, whether in a magic sense or a cultivation sense.
“I want to die. I want to die. Why have I spent so many years learning these things when you could just do this and that, and in seconds, you could learn a spell that would normally take months… Who is teaching who here? I was supposed to be the master. Why am I suddenly the idiot who only knows how to do two plus two?” Lilly was mumbling to herself as she bit the tip of her thumb gnawing on it while rocking back and forth. She seemed to have lost her mind.
“Lilly, relax. Your method of doing things actually helps your daily life. Without knowing math, your world would not have advanced as much as it has.” Yuki was trying to calm the girl down.
“But still… if things are really as you say, then wouldn’t creating circles of each element be easy? The power to wield all elements will ring in a new age. Becoming a tenth circle magi would only be a year of practice. You have no idea how much this would benefit the world.” Lilly protested. She felt this was something this world truly needed.
Yuki thought for a moment and came to a realization. This world’s technology stagnated because there was no need to. The tenth circle was seen as the most powerful, but what if there was something far beyond that? What if this world could really progress further if they had the ability to use magic without math? Yuki shook her head. It was not her place to change this world. She just wanted to learn what she could here, find the others, and then go home.
“What you do with this new knowledge is up to you. Whether it will work for others or not is also up to that person. Grasping things one way or the other is different between people. Some might need the visualization concept of the equations to create spells, while others can just do what I am doing. Having both systems might just help those who are slow to learn math.” Yuki knew people learned in different ways, so these two systems combined could become very powerful.
“Do you mind if I tell my father? He would be very interested in all of this.” Lilly seemed to perk up when he heard Yuki’s suggestion. This really made more sense to her. If both systems could be used, it would really be for the better.
Later that night, Yuki and Delia were called for dinner. The dining room was very big and held a long table. Around it were the members of the Massin family. Henry himself had three wives. Each one sat in order from first wife, second wife, third wife. They did not seem to have any issues with one another, at least on the surface. Yuki and Delia sat across from them, while Lilly sat next to Delia. But Yuki had seen the looks on the other sons and daughters of the Massin family when they saw this. That was because Lilly was getting higher treatment than them. The order in which one sat showed the hierarchy of the family. Those closer to Henry were the ones with the most power in the family.
“Miss Yuki, Lilly has told me everything that happened today. Have you really found an easier method of creating magic?” Henry asked. His eyes showed the excitement one would see in a child walking around a toy store.
“Father, I think we should take anything an outsider with no background had to say about magic seriously.”
