“We have enough people here to keep an eye out from now on. But we really should get going.” Lishia felt bad for Mino, but it was best not to stay in town any longer.
“I will carry her then. I am the one who put her in her current state.” Shizuku pursed her lips as she walked over to the bed. Mino was now dressed, so it was fine for her to go as is. She picked her up and slipped the sleeping girl onto her back, which Mino seemed to enjoy with how she instantly nuzzled into Shizuku’s neck. “Alright, let’s head out.”
Two months quickly passed…
In front of Shizuku was a massive wall that rose high into the sky by at least three hundred feet. “Is this really necessary?”
“The church had this built over five hundred years ago. There used to never be a wall here, but because the Fallen had items that the church still covets, they built gates here and there. But there are also gaps in the wall you can cross through due to time and weather. We would need ids to pass through the gates, so we can only use the gaps.” Lishia explained.
Shizuku could only frown at the Church’s hypocrisy. As an adventurer, she could easily pass through the gates, but the others could not, which is why Lishia was bringing them to one of these gaps in the wall.
“Lishia, when you said gap, you really meant a massive hole, right?” Shizuku looked at the hole that was at least a hundred feet tall and three hundred feet wide and shook her head. She wondered if there was even a need for any gates with these holes here.
“Well…. The gates were installed a while ago, and only those from the Fallen races will use them if they are on official business. Everyone else uses holes like these.” Lishia replied with a smile. “Let’s go. It is time to see a whole new side of this world.”
“I really hope things are different.” Miyumi let out a deep sigh. She was really hoping to see a new face to this world and not one so hell-bent on looking down on other races.
Lishia smiled and said: “It will take three days to reach the first city. I promise you will be pleasantly surprised at the difference.”
Three days later, a large town came into sight. It had a line of wagons going down the long dirt road. “Welcome to Freesdale. It is the trade town of the Kingdom of Dracluna.” Lishia introduced the town.
“It seems to be very busy here. Many humans as well.” Miyumi noticed that the line of wagons in front of them was mostly made up of humans.
“That is because human merchants come here to trade their goods and pick up unique wares. Merchants are like adventurers and do not discriminate. After all, you can not be a merchant if you wish to peddle wares from other territories. This is just their first stop before heading to the other cities within Dracluna. You can consider this kingdom to be very friendly to all races. You do, however, need to be careful once you cross the borders into all territories. Like the orc and goblin clans have strict rules. The undead clans, as well. While Dracluna has more than just vampires roaming around, it is a good place to learn the laws of other kingdoms in Fallen territory.” Lishia pointed to another line as they made their way to the road. “We go there. We are not merchants.”
“I hope I can find a place to learn more about my own race. It is hard being a vampire and not knowing the rules and laws of my own kind.” Shizuku was finally hoping to find a library, a place for her to sit back and read what she could.
“There is a decent-sized library here in Freesdale. It cost a gold coin to enter but you can sit and read all the texts there. It has books on all races around the world human side, and Fallen. It is where I did a lot of my own research when I was first starting out..” Lishia puffed out her chest at this. She looked at Shizuku, waiting to be complimented.
Seeing her expectant gaze made Shizuku chuckle as she reached up and patted the sword saint’s head. “Amazing! Lishia is the best!”
“Hehe!” If Lishia had a tail, it would be wagging right about now.
“So this line we are going to is it just for travelers who are not merchants?” Shizuku asked. She was curious about the entry policies.
“Yes. You see, each wagon gets inspected which makes the merchant line very slow. The line for travelers is much faster since you only need to be checked with the crystal to see if you have committed any crimes in Fallen territory.” Lishia was a treasure trove of knowledge. Shizuku was very happy to have her as a friend and escort into Fallen lands.
