TROA) Run In At Food Mart Part 1

We were currently standing in front of a shopping center that had a large food mart inside of it. I figured if I was going to find any survivors, it would be here, at least for now anyway. “Jen, make sure you stay alert while we are inside. If you hear a noise, weapons pointed first, okay?”

“Yes. I will do my best not to get hurt and make you worry.” I could tell Jen was worried, but there was not much I could do about that. As time goes on and we start moving around more and doing more resource hunting, she will slowly get used to the run and gun situations that we will come across.

I stepped through the broken glass of the door and began walking down the wall with Jen behind me. I kept my eyes open for anything out of the ordinary. On the way here, we did run into two more spiders, which one Jen took care of and the other I killed myself. Sadly, a single kill on a spider after leveling up did not give me a second level up! However, I do think that once the second wave hits and will bring billions of these things down from the sky, I will be able to level up quite quickly. For now, it’s like hunting down the last of their kind since the biggest group already moved on and spread out. All that was left were stragglers.

We walked through the entrance, which had a few stores here and there but not the place I was looking for. My target was the food mart. But I did have to say this place stunk badly. So many dead bodies were lying all over. From young to old, the spiders did not discriminate. You would be any race, any age, and they would still kill you.

“Jen, what would you do if these bodies suddenly got up and started yelling: Brains!” I asked teasingly.

“I would shoot them instantly. Then kick you because you jinxed us! Punishment would be no sex!” Jen’s words were so firm I couldn’t help but blush a little. My Jen was becoming corrupted! Where was the shy Jen!? Come back!

Of course, I still played along with her. “You are so mean! Why would you not give me sex!?” 

“That is the part that concerns you the most!?” Jen looked at me with rosy cheeks. It seemed even she was a little embarrassed. 

“Hehe!” I let out a laugh as I stepped over another dead body. Our shoes stepped on the sticky, damp floor that was covered in pools of blood. It’s not the typical scene where you would see two girls our age laughing and teasing each other in.

“Oh right, my mom wants to hold a wedding for us.” I had forgotten my mother had it in her head that now that the world ended, she wanted me and Jen to get married as soon as possible so she could see our wedding in case we all kicked the bucket soon. I can see where she is coming from, but she should also understand that she is living in the safest place in the entire world!

“I am fine with that.” I knew Jen would say that. I already knew that to Jen, I was her world. I could not disappoint her either. 

“Then I will tell her to get it set up. She can take what she wants from the store rooms. I am sure there must be things for weddings in there.” I stopped and thought for a moment before saying: “Since we are out, we should hit up the wedding store here. Maybe we can find a few dresses. What do you think?”

“Sounds good!” Jen smiled and hugged my arm. Why was my Jen so cute? Her smile bloomed like flowers. Then again, I could just be a love sick fool. 

We kept walking forward. Since we were already close to the food mart, we still decided to go there. But from what I could tell, my drones were already detecting a few heat signatures. I nudged Jen and whispered: “I think we might have found some people.” 

Jen nodded and readied her weapon. Her drones were covering our rear. One was outside, and another two were floating behind her, giving her a full view of things on both sides of us so that we would not get trapped.

My drones were scouting ahead. Having three drones each allowed us to cover a lot more than what our normal eyes could see. As we walked closer to the food mart, I could hear some rummaging around. We stepped lightly, making sure not to make a sound since we did not know if the other people were armed or not.

While we both had a phase shield, it was not some automatic thing. We had to activate it, and only then would it block any bullets that might come flying at us. I still needed time to do some research and make a few brain syncing chips so we could control things with our minds. But I will first take a look into these new chips as well that I have gotten. I got two chips already. 

When we made our way around, stepping over bodies and empty containers, we finally arrived not far away from the noise. I circled one of the drones over to the location to see a young girl and boy filling a basket with canned food. They did not seem to be armed. I looked at Jen and gave her a hand signal. The two of us split up and went to different ends of the aisle with our weapons drawn. Although I was pointing a weapon at these two, I still tried to speak in a non threatening tone. “Excuse us, but we would like to speak with you.”
