DUNGEON DEGENERATES LORE 3

The next blood-soaked era; “Die SelbstzugefügteWunde” was horrible for the Gütter & anyone else that the Würst decided was a thorn in their side. The Würst had united under the leadership of the seven warrior saints. These warrior saints would form the Holy Order, codify the Würst historic & ideological doctrine & enforce this new way using sword, fire, torture chamber & gallows. Crusaders of the Holy Order swarmed over the land in their grand Inquisition looking for anything that might challenge the Imperial order in any way. This new body of the Würstreich was headed by the first emperor Otto Die Schrecklichen, a cruel, fierce man with a curly yellow mane, a fierce countenance & a determination to dominate all the land under the Sausage Stabber banner of the Würstreich.

In the genocidal war “Die SelbstzugefügteWunde”, many enemies of the newly formed state were felled. Their lifeless, rotting bodies piled up high in the streets. The smell, the clouds of flies & opportunistic rats were overwhelming. Because germ theory was unknown, the Holy Order used the people’s horror & declared that Gütter witches were taking the dead for use in their own Necromantic activities. The bodies had to be hidden, purified before they could be used by the enemy.

Necromancy was used by both the Würst & the Gütter. The Würst understood it more scientifically & the Gütter knew it more intuitively. They both understood that immense power was still contained in the dead which could be used by the right means. Controlling both life & death were the two goals of the Würstreich. Withholding that power from the Gütter became one of their central tenants.

If bodies were unable to be moved to the Necropolis for holding they were set aflame in pits by the Corpseburners, Imperial agents tasked with the processing of corpses before they could be used by the Gütter.

The Würstreich interred the corpses en masse in the newly built Necropolis, the Totenstadt. Like Brüttelburg & the undercity dungeons, the Necropolis was built on the remains of the old, forbidden developments of the Celestials who occupied the land long before. The Imperial engineers frequently used the ancient labyrinthine, megalithic architecture of the Celestials as a guide. The Necropolis connects the Graveyard & the Catacombs with the older Celestial City of the Dead containing the skeletal remains of giants & other non-humans. The Holy Order walled off these areas & will not speak of them to keep their official narrative tidy. The cold & dark tunnels of the Necropolis connected to the fortress city Brüttelburg & the Verboten Zone beneath it that contained the remains of the Celestials & their civilization. The new building used excessive death motifs featuring skeletons, grim reapers & other morbid markers of the passage of time.
