DUNGEON DEGENERATES LORE 02

The early Valhal peoples faced a dilemma. The old tribal ways offered a sense of security, an assuredness of the way the world was & what it meant to be. With the discovery of the secrets of the Celestials, they gained a distinct advantage over but also shut the door on the past. The Würst decided to make that faustian bargain & turned their backs on the elders. 

At first they were targeted by the Gütter elders who rightly saw them as a threat. The Gütter tribes would hunt down their Würst rivals, painting them as traitorous turncoats who had broken the most sacred taboos of the Gütter, messing in the ruins of the Celestials. The Würst had broken the bonds with the old Gods & nature itself. The Gütter were right in some ways, the Celestials had discovered a means to cheat & use death itself, to further their powers in life. The Gütter learned that the dead could be harnessed & made the use of the dead one of their core tenants, breaking centuries of Gütter tradition.

The Würst then started to use their new powers that were borrowed from the Celestials. The Würst excelled dramatically in the fields of alchemy & necromancy, unlocking gunpowder & even the beginnings of industrial production. The Gütter were barely engaged in agriculture & the Würst were already pushing into the realms of mechanization.

Soon, some of the Gütter started to see that the grass was greener & leaving the old ways of the Gütter to join the growing ranks of the Würst. The Würst, to prove their power & supremacy then began to wage war on the Gütter, slaughtering them with ease using their advanced technology. These people who used to be one, had been totally separated by tradition & expansion.  

The Gütter, facing mounting casualties & being so dramatically overpowered turned inwards & concentrated on their culture & focussed on living alongside the Würst instead of battling them. The Würst eventually became the undeniable power in the area.
