DUNGEON DEGENERATES LORE 01

Sorry about the delay in posting this, I just figured out how to write more lore without making this work so bulky & complex as to be unfun! That said here you go.

Mythologically, the Würstreich was founded by the twins Max & Moritz, who were sired by the god Tor & their virgin mother Lud & raised by a wild pig named Würst. This is a variation on an old Gütter tale that has been modified for consumption by all the children of the Würstreich & repeated endlessly in puppet shows. The other, state propaganda national origin story states that the Founding Saints came together, killed off anything that was causing problems for their people & established the Würstreich. The Gütter tell another story of subjugation & genocide. The truth is another matter altogether. The Würst & the Gütter were once one, an association of tribes that are known by historians as the Valhal. These peoples wandered the land, living lives much more close to that of the animals that they shared these lands with.

Life was short & brutal for the Valhal. If the giant animals didn’t get them, disease, tooth infection & other forces of nature would. They used spears, slings & clubs against the massive mammals with massive teeth & massive horns that lived in the lands in massive numbers. The Valhal were utterly dominated by the saurian Grossesreptil, big, stupid reptilian monsters that lumbered around & ate each other, the Valhal & some just ate plants. The Valhal were unable to pierce the thick skin of the Grossereptil with their stone weapons. There were other tribal groups of humans further East & to the South, Goblins to the North & reptilian & insectoid civilizations from aeons past still clung to their supremacy in the East. 

The Valhal lived among the ruins of an even more ancient civilization, that of the Celestials. The Valhal were not sure what the Celestials looked like, but they were able to mold the Earth as if it were clay, leaving a sepulchral selection of traces of their past glory. The Celestials possessed a technology so powerful & unknowable as to be indistinguishable from magic. Trespassing in their ruins was forbidden.

Eventually a group of the Valhal explored the ruins & absorbed what they could of the ancient technology & learned from their knowledge machines. They wrote these findings in a series of books that are now denied to even exist. These Valhal found themselves intellectually accelerated far beyond their fellow tribesmen. They kept this knowledge secret & encouraged the taboo nature of the Celestial ruins, going as far as destroying the remains of many of the remnants in order that they could never be discovered again.
