I built up calluses on myself from survival techniques I developed as a kid, being thrust into so many interactions I had absolutely no control over. We all have developed these calluses, some more than others. I’ve been working on lessening the calluses that no longer serve me & it’s like as soon as one is diminished I notice another one. I guess that’s life. This morning I was thinking about my issues with rules. I understand that rules are a way to govern that space where you meet with other people, that’s the good side of rules, I emotionally feel rules as a means of control. At the same time I am always creating sets of rules for myself that I’d like other people to follow & I choose to make games that are given structure for the player by rules systems that help the player interact with the thing I’m trying to convey. I also have no problem breaking rules, I don’t even think about it. I’m like Godzilla with Japanese towns, they’re sort of in the way, but not really. However, rules mean different things for different people, & I am not Godzilla, especially now, I probably never was. What I’m acknowledging is how much I need rules, that I know they are important. It’s weird to have had this total life-changing event in the stroke & to be forced into this completely new way of being.
