I’ve been thinking alot about resentment & holding grudges. So many of the subcultures I was involved in growing up had a very encouraging attitude towards anger, resentment & grudges. Culture for beaten dogs. Seems like a profound, all-too human mistake to make your entire way of life out of these things. Punk seemed to be at least half constructed of negative emotions. The fashion, music, lifestyle was an extension of these emotions. I naturally don’t hang on to these things, now I actively try to process & shed them. I now know that letting go of these feelings is much healthier for you all around, lowers the blood pressure, probably diminishes cancer as much as that disease seems to have a mental component. Health is obviously a mind/body combination. I have been more medicalized since the stroke than ever before & every professional agrees with that. Even if their system doesn’t acknowledge it. There is an encouragement to pick body or mind & stick with it. But, a mix of Western & Eastern approaches to medicine seems to be as good as we can get with understanding our complex biological system at this point, honestly understanding anything. I’m reminded of the alchemical influence on Indian & Chinese food. Science should be able to eventually explain everything, but the supernatural is our way of seeing things that we don’t yet understand & the vistas of our ignorance keep widening.
