The BL versus Queer Media discussion is important. Shows like “Heartstopper” and “I Told Sunset About You” exist in the real world. The characters have real world issues, mostly around acknowledging their queerness. Whereas, most of the BLs never discuss homosexuality (with the exception of some of the newer ones), and it’s often disguised as “I’m not gay, I only like X.” So it’s interesting to see how the genre changes. But it’s also boring to see the same stuff repeated over and over.
