[DEVBLOG#287] Vanilla Dating Expanded

Hello everyone and welcome to a brand new development blog.

1st of April is one of my favourite days of the year, as it's usually the day we announce our spiciest, best mods. After all, it was two years ago that we have announced Vanilla Races Expanded - Highmates, a now very popular mod.

We have heard you, and we know how interested you are in some new, exciting RPG-like content. Vanilla Quests Expanded is only one approach we wanted to take, but there are others.

One thing I always wanted to bring to RimWorld is proper RPG-like conversations, where you can select what your characters would say. We have worked behind the scenes to design a complex system in which we can script different conversation paths, and even allow characters to remember what was said - which in turn allows your choices to have a much more profound impact on the relationships between pawns.

Vanilla Dating Expanded is a new upcoming mod in which we put all this code to the test. The mod will launch with 8 unique love stories you can witness. After enabling this mod, and some time passes, a new event will trigger called 'Romantic visitor'. They will be one of the 8 characters and you will recognize them thanks to the heart symbol next to them.

Interacting with them will allow your chosen colonist to engage in dating - but be careful, as the interactions you can choose from will depend on the traits and characteristics of your chosen colonist.

As you converse with the visitor, you will earn lovewill - which is a system similar to goodwill and represents how much the character likes you.

Higher lovewill may unlock new interaction types, as well as new dialogue options. There may be situations where you will have to defuse some drama, especially if certain characters have different world views.

Vanilla Dating Expanded elevates the dating mechanics of the game, and should in theory allow you to witness immersive stories that will have you glued to the screen.

While we're thouroughly testing the initial 8 romantic interests, we're also developing additional four which will release later this year.
