[DEVBLOG#274] Insector new genes!
Added 2024-08-11 10:56:10 +0000 UTCHello everyone! I hope you're having a nice sunday, and if you're not, I hope what I'm about to show you will make it nicer!
I've finished the infographics for all the new genes you can obtain for your Insectors when consuming pherocores with Vanilla Factions Expanded - Insectoids 2. There is quite a lot of them, and if you choose to play as Insectors and interact with Insectoids 2 content, you should have plenty of progression to go through, keeping you entertained for a long time!
To get these genes, you simply need to consume the pherocores with your Insector pawns. This will unlock 1 random gene of that specific geneline. This gene can be either an evolution or a degrade, but even the degrades you can unlock are worth having - and most importantly, they add to customizability!
Now let me show you all the infographics:

Now, let me know what you think about these genes. I can confirm that the Insector update will release at the same time as Vanilla Factions Expanded - Insectoids 2. Quite soon.

Oh you will get an email from Patreon when it does! :)

2024-08-12 13:58:51 +0000 UTCI agree with the "brutal" judgement. This is especially true for 'Solid Grey Matter', but also for 'Volatile' (though perhaps to a lesser extent). I can't see myself *ever* using these options. Regarding 'Microsized' and 'Colossal': Would it be too much to add a slightly increased dodge chance respectively a slight damage bonus? It would fit thematically. I also have a question: In the description of 'Pherocore Genes', it says that once unlocked, the genes are "accessible ... forever". This means 'for this playthrough', not 'for all future games', doesn't it? (The latter is unlikely, but not unknown to other mods. That's why I'm asking).

2024-08-12 11:36:32 +0000 UTCThe only change I could think of making is that solidified grey matter is really harsh especially for something you have to seek to unlock i my first thought was to prevent learning or forgetting but i think thats propably too far a step in the positive direction since then it becomes negligible or even positive once you get a pawns skills where you want them

2024-08-11 18:51:47 +0000 UTCThat was the intention. Remember these are evolutions and degrades, which means you can enable and disable them at any time. It's not like you can add or remove normal genes at any time - most pawns will never have the acid spray ability UNLESS they are an insector, and if they are, they can at will add or remove it.

2024-08-11 15:07:39 +0000 UTCInsectors can appear as part of a wanderer appearing event, as per the Insector mod page. After a while they can reveal that they were hiding a chestburster pregnancy and it's up to you what to do with it.

2024-08-11 14:47:59 +0000 UTCAwesome surprise to see a greater variety of genes and a great idea to merge this with the pherocore mechanics! Some of these degrades are brutal though, I can't ever imagine using Solid Grey Matter for example, especially when it is on par with any other degrade in terms of cost balance. Perhaps I'm missing a cool roleplay idea though.

2024-08-11 14:36:32 +0000 UTCSuggestion: Make insectors spawn naturally in the world even if only rarely. I’ve been playing for two years in my current save and haven’t found any.

2024-08-11 14:12:57 +0000 UTCSome of these are incredibly similar to base genes. Not arguing against new ways to get genes, but I’d certainly be let down if I got another acid puke ability after killing a big fella bug

2024-08-11 14:05:22 +0000 UTCYou need Line of sight of the target so unlikely, plus it destroys, not mines. Major difference, as destroying doesn't yield resources.
