Warhound Related Works

Now that Rescue Hound is well under way, I wanted to take a quick moment to highlight some of the related works that have sprung up around Warhound since that story's debut. Honestly, I've been amazed that people have felt moved to write their own fics in Warhound's universe, and to draw and even cosplay as my characters. Seriously, it's more than I ever dared hope for. I retweet/tweet about some of this semi-regularly but if you're not on twitter, let me point you to a few really outstanding works.

First of all, there's Steel Jaws Speak No Evil, the ongoing set of fanfics by Vivi/unyieldingUtopia, beginning with Binary System. Along with its sequel, Loyalty , it really runs with the ball with a truly insidious Handler/Hound/Hound dynamic, and flexes an incredible amount of creativity when it comes to both mech combat and all the messed-up identity goodness you'd expect from the setting. More than once, Vivi has come up with an idea so good, I wish I'd had it for myself. Whenever I'm writing Warhound stories I can feel her snapping at my heels. You owe it to yourself to check her work out

Next (but certainly not least) is Hekate's Call, by Mal. It actually started life as the Warhound fanfics Hunter's Shadow and Corpse Eater (both of which still hold a special place in my heart), but has since grown into something entirely of its own, far more ambitious in scope and set in an original fictional universe. Hekate's Call deals with some similar themes to Warhound - control, dependency, identity - but does so in its own unique way, and features a full cast of absolutely wild characters interacting in a very different setting. Mal has cooked up some unbelievably hot scenes, and orchestrated dynamics that have tugged on my heartstrings and got a truly visceral reaction from me. It's so good. If you love mechs, sci-fi, and messy, awful lesbians, it's a must-read

Mal and Vivi are also both doing me a huge favor by beta reading Rescue Hound before it releases. For that, I owe them a huge debt

But it's not just fics! There's art too, and I really must shout-out Ocean for their absolutely outstanding depictions of Handler and Sartha. There's more on their profile, and other twisted mecha art besides, but for starters, take a look at this piece. I don't think anyone else has captured Handler quite so convincingly

Honestly, there are more people I wish I could mention, but I think that's enough for now. Basically, I'm just crazy excited about all of this, and I want to share it with you: the patrons who've helped make it happen
