[DCI] Chapter 9 - Not a Single Moment Wasted [HIDDEN]

The chapter has been hidden due to the release on Amazon. The book can now (as of 01.08.2022) be found under my author profile J. R. Saileri in eBook, paperback, and soon audiobook too.

I'm liking this story, looking forward to more!

Hmmmm, I actually had similar thoughts, but in a slightly different frame of ref.. I myself have done a tone of camping and biking and the headlights are excellent for hands-free operation, correct - but what I have found difficult to deal with are the shadows produced, you have to move your head around in a rather silly way to get depth perception sometimes, as opposed to just moving your hand however, and the other is sometimes you want to look elsewhere from where the light is shining, to let eyes adjust or put emphasis on your hearing.. kinda hard to explain - but added with the usual pain of turning them on and off easily there are drawbacks to the headlights over handhelds from time to time. Sometimes, there are much better and more useful than handhelds. Also, I was thinking about this new character and realized that this person might be more used to gaming than adventuring out in the world. Seems like a sharp brain though so should catch up to experience quickly. ---- Anyway, those were my thoughts after pondering for a bit. On the second thing... actually I realized I must be of a similar psychology as the author as the MC's rationality and kindness seem totally natural and logical to me. But, I understand that there are many out there who simply, through nature or nurture, grow habituated to controlling the attention and wills of others, oftentimes without any deeper goal in mind. So I agree that there sure seems to be a fine line between being too passive and acceding to hierarchy or whatever and having a solid sense of self and respect which is reflected outwards regardless of the offensive natures of others. This new guy and the other MC's sure seems to skirt that line from time to time but always manage to have been pretty solid in retrospect. I would love to learn this art - as in the moments I have more often failed and fallen one way or another into cringe.

Mostly because the flashlight he received isn't just a normal, modern one but kind of a slight magitech. It would be possible to get a decent headlamp, of course, but this one had quite a good range of usefulness, including the point-focus and strengthening of the light. Might be replaced at a later stage by something wearable.

So, first off, I don't understand why he didn't buy a light that doesn't require the use of his hands. There's modern versions of a headlamp that is just a strap of elastic with a light on the front that he could put on his fantasy helmet. Second, I want to put my opinion in that I'm enjoying the dungeon crawler nature of the story, especially with it being litrpg and him starting from the bottom and working his way up. At some point if it's always dungeons it may start to get old, but it would not for me for a long time. I think if it turns out what is considered a dungeon turned out to be a pretty vast concept that would help, for example if if turns out any type of pocket dimension that he needs to explore and solve counts as a dungeon then it would allow for plenty of variety to keep things interesting. Also, I hope he's allowed to vacation not only to his own world, but others at some point, especially since his home is already it's own pocket dimension anyway. I hope he grows into being more comfortable with asserting himself as the one with power in the relationship as things continue since it really would match his class better, even if he's still more considerate later than most overlords. It was annoying seeing him so overly considerate to her he was thinking of sleeping on the floor despite her being the subordinate and it being his bed and home. When it gets to that point it feels less like consideration and more like someone who doesn't value themselves, which is honestly hard to make up for since it means he'll either get taken advantage of later or get protected from being taken advantage of by plot armor.

I am enjoying the set up so far, but I also acknowledge not everyone will like everything. Much like I enjoyed Steve Perry’s Matadora series but not so much what he wrote in the Star Wars universe. Or how I love the Dresden files but not Codex Aleta by Jim Butcher. To each there own and thank goodness for variety. What’s pretty cool here on Patreon is we all get to offer our opinions before it hits publication. So, good on ya for being honest and at least a bit open to something new or you would have probably stopped reading these by now. My 2 cents which won’t get you a cup of coffee anywhere!

Nothing I can do about that, unfortunately. I have some great plans for the story to not make it just "go in, go out, repeat", but that would be insane spoilers, of course. I'm a whore for hidden details so there's pretty much always more than it seems in my stories :v I picked this idea out of like ten of others I have planned and I'm just going with it. It might flop, it might not, that's life. To some extent, it is similar to my other stories, for being slow, slice of lifey, etc. We all read what we enjoy in the end, as I often say. I have fun writing this, I will finish Vol 1, publish it, then either work on another of my ideas or write Vol 2 depending on the reception. That's my plan for future. TWS + BIAW as main stories and something else on the side to poke different fields. Thanks for your input. If we are any lucky, the story will hit the crowd that thrives of dungeon crawler type stories and such. Personally, I do like reading about such progression, even heavier and crunchier than this one as I'm making DCI lighter. Luck is all.

By way of comparison, I feel exactly the same for stories involving people doing something via virtual reality. There’s way too many stories like that and like dungeon stuff the vast majority of them are just horrible that there’s no point in even reading any anymore. Sorry if that’s not a popular viewpoint here.

So, while I find your writing extremely good, the basis of the story: wandering through a dungeon, is just a poor foundation for a story. While I’ve been reading these chapters, I feel absolutely no compulsion to read them as soon as they come out, unlike your other two stories. While I’ll admit that perhaps this is just my personal preference and others may feel differently, I wanted to let you know what the story feels to me. I don’t see any way this will be anywhere near as good as your other two stories and it’s not for lack of good writing. You’re clearly amazingly talented at writing. It’s just that some scenarios don’t make the best foundation for a story.

Tanner Lovelace

Thanks for another great chapter of an awesome story!

I'm sure the release of chapters will slow down but im enjoying this as much as the other two. Keep up the great work.

I love this so far. The amount of chapters you are releasing is truly amazing. Thanks.
