February 2019 Patch Release [Patch #10]
Added 2019-03-01 06:11:46 +0000 UTCHey everyone! It's March now. The snow has finally melted away and the world is now green! Spring is almost here in the world of Animal Crossing. Next month will mark the one year anniversary of this Patreon! I've been hard at work this past month with a few major changes. While only one is ready to show off, the next few months will be exciting!
Oh, and we finally have another translator! You can find them as SpoonMe in the Animal Crossing Modding Discord server. They've been a massive help in the past month!
Let's take a look at what I've been working on during the side this month!
Forest Patcher
Forest Patcher is the new, easy to use patching program! It still uses xdelta to do the patching, but it handles everything else you use to do manually by itself! Let's talk about the features.
Forest Patcher has only two text boxes. The "Source" text box, and the "Patch" text box. The Source text box is for selecting your unmodified, clean rip of Doubutsu no Mori e+ (either version 1.00 or 1.01). The Patch text box is for selecting the new Forest Patcher patch file.
The program will automatically fill in those boxes for you if you have both your ISO and patch file in the same folder as ForestPatcher.exe! No more searching around for the needed files.
Another cool feature is ISO verification! Forest Patcher will check the ISO you chose (or the one automatically loaded) and verify that it's compatible with the patch file! Now you'll know easily whether or not that sketchy copy of e+ you found online will work or not! The same goes for if you dumped your ISO from the disc!
The other main feature is patch versioning detection. Forest Patcher will check to see if the patch file selected (either automatically or manually) is the latest patch! If it isn't the program will ask you if you'd like to be taken to the Patreon page to download the latest version!
There are a few other more minor changes:
- No more split patches for version 1.00 and version 1.01! Forest Patcher can identify which version your ISO is, and will automatically apply the proper patch for it. Both patches are contained in the patch file (.fst file)!
- The selected patch information is show in the info box below the Source & Patch text boxes.
- There are Discord & Patreon buttons! The Discord button will open an invite to the Animal Crossing Modding server, and the Patreon button will open the Patreon page.
- The background will change at the same time as the seasons do in Animal Crossing!
Okay, now that all the info about Forest Patcher is laid out, let's move onto what's new in this month's translation patch!
Changes
Over 1,500 newly translated dialogs!
- A ton of villager quest dialogs have been translated! Around half of all quest dialog should now be in English!
- Some villager sickness dialogs are now translated!
- Many eavesdroppable villager conversations are now translated (Thanks @ SpoonMe!)
- Villager dialog for completing both the insect & fish encyclopedias is translated.
- Some random villager dialog (various tips, meaningless conversations) has been translated (Thanks @ SpoonMe!)
- Kanji level dialog is now fully translated! (Thanks @ SpoonMe!)
- Fixed a few typos & some weird text sizes/colors.
Next Month
I want to try and finish up the villager quest dialog completely by the end of March! SpoonMe will likely continue to work on villager eavesdrop conversations, and some random dialog here-and-there. I've also got another update that has been in the works for a couple of months now that I can possibly show off as well!
I hope you enjoy this month's translation patch. As always, please report any issues you find to me in the #bug-reports channel of the Discord server, or message me on Patreon!
Once again, thank each and every one of you for your support! Without your help I wouldn't be able to spend the time that I do on this project every month. The final patch is drawing closer every month!
