Hi Guys,
It's now October so as promised here's an exclusive update on SSR2 Alpha. This device will be a 2-axis quiet stroker. It will have a VESA mounting scheme just like OSR2 and SR6 but its movement axes will be stroke and twist. This will be a very unique machine, both in its configuration and its drive mechanism. I have come up with a unique parallel twin-motor system that means there's no motor or wiring on the receiver itself.
I have assembled and tested the receiver now, including the quiet twist bearings and drive gear and I'm pleased to report that it works great. I have done tests in the past that give me confidence in the drive motor mechanism itself. However, the motor mount still needs some significant design work before I can get the first Alpha build out to you guys. Therefore, as promised, for 1st October I am putting out a provisional list of the parts this machine will use.
These are:
- 2x GM3506 Motors - with AS5048a encoders
- 2x SFOC motor drivers
- 1x ESP32 DevKit V1
- 3x 6mm diameter rods, 200m long (steel would work but I have use carbon fibre to make them lighter)
- 1x GT2 belt, 600mm long
- 4x GT2-6mm idler pulleys (smooth)
- 1x GT2-6mm idler pulley (teeth)
- 2x 7x3x3mm bearings. (Same as I used on the T-wist 5)
- 3mm brass rod (cut to 21mm long)
- Sheet of 1mm-thick PTFE
- Bolts will include: M3x16 Countersunk & M3x8 Countersunk
(Note that a lot of these parts are common to SSR1 and to my upcoming SSR6 concept.)
Keep your eyes out for a livestream in the coming weeks. As you might expect I will be streaming a demo of this thing as soon as I have it running. If you have any questions feel free to comment or, even better, drop me an @ over on the #maker-chat channel on Discord.
As always I want to say a big thanks. It's you guys that make all of this possible, and I'm very excited to get this new machine out to you.
