April '25 Update

Hi Guys,

Time for a public update: I am back, SSR1 Beta is a thing, and I'm now working on some longer term projects. In the meantime expect some incremental hardware upgrades.

As I continue to move away from servo-based devices toward brushless motors I want to leave my old devices in a good state. Back in June '22 I created the build packs to effectively draw a line under OSR2 and SR6 so I could go forward to other things. Since then however I have added to both of these devices, and I have learned a lot as well. This summer I would like to re-issue those packs, partly this is to consolidate everything and make sure it's all in one place.

I do have some upgrades I would like too make too though. OSR2 has had quite a bit of attention from me for the last year or so, but not so much SR6. When I designed SR6 Beta I made extensive use of metal nuts, inserted into slots in the plastic. They have always been a bit of a pain and I've wanted to replace them for a while. Recently I have been using heat-set inserts a lot, including on the design for SSR1 Beta. They work great, and I feel like it's time to incorporate these into the design of SR6.

The next hardware release for the Maker tier ($2) will therefore be an upgraded set of SR6 STLs designed to take the heat-set inserts.

For those of you who are curious about these inserts and how to... um, insert them... I'm going to do a livestream in the next couple of days where I'll start building up a new SR6. Expect a Supporter tier ($2) post out on this shortly. The last stream, which I put out live to a private YouTube stream as well as Discord, seemed to work pretty well.

Benefactors ($16 tier), I know I am way behind on my written newsletter but of course I'm still posting regularly to my Devstream on Discord. The January & February newsletter should be written and posted soon.

All the best,

Tempest

The frame in the image attached to this post is what the servos are mounted on in an SR6, so yes.

Will the servo mountings be heat set insert also?
