January '25 Update
Added 2025-01-08 00:03:43 +0000 UTCHi Guys,
It's a new year, and I have some exciting news regarding the custom PCB for SSR1 Beta.
As I mentioned last month, I have been working with a member of our community to get all of the electronics associated with SSR1 onto a single integrated PCB. This PCB handles USB-C power collection, the ESP32 microcontroller, motor control and the MT6701 encoder. It's very neat. It sits where the encoder mount would go and literally the only wiring needed is to connect up the motor!
The designer has also added in the capability to power and connect a small PC fan and I2C devices such as an OLED display for future expansion, as well as breaking out a bunch of the GPIO pins.
This is a first release iteration of this board design and as such I am going to attach the same caveat as I do for my own designs. Understand that it's still early days and there might be bugs that we haven't spotted yet! I fully expect there to be more iterations of this board going into the future.
All of that said, the developer has a limited stock of these new boards available for purchase at their own online store.
The design is also open source, which means hopefully other suppliers within our community will also pick this up. The details are on the associated GitHub.
Now that this board exists I am going to prioritise getting a case cover that accommodates it released. My next highest priority is to get some build instructions for SSR1 Beta written and released. That will be sometime in the next few weeks for my Maker ($8) tier.
I have actually had a very rough Christmas and New Year because I have been quite badly ill. I had hoped to do some work and do a livestream late last month but in the event that wasn't possible. I am going to be playing catch up over the next few weeks.
For my supporter ($2) tier I will put up a post in the near future as soon as I feel up to livestreaming again. I am also working on the outstanding Benefactor ($16) tier newsletters for last year.
A year on it's great being a father, but if my little one would stop giving me diseases this would be a lot easier!
Happy New Year and Happy Building in 2025!

I'm actually finding these things overheat to dangerous levels and now it's not working at all. I bought 2 of these PCB's too.

2025-02-01 10:16:06 +0000 UTCBoM? Would be nice to get things on order. It's really frustrating trying to find hardware releases, and be confident we've found the most recent version of the specific files we may have found. A central location would be much appreciated.

2025-01-28 22:08:44 +0000 UTCHi there. Sorry to hear you've had trouble accessing the content. I've DMed the password to you. The files are also available on the discord server.

2025-01-23 20:43:00 +0000 UTCI just joined here... how do i actually get all the files for the builds? Everything has a pssword - I never received one in email.. spam or otherwise.. and then old builds have different passwords? Isn't there just a repository of everything current somewhere? Talk about annoying.

2025-01-23 05:19:33 +0000 UTCI'm in contact with Millibyte for replacements, they are very responsive and are tracking down the issue, possibly related to shipping. I was able to hack together one of the boards and have it running. Would order again.

2025-01-22 17:52:07 +0000 UTCWARNING: I ordered two boards and both of the capacitors came off one I was assembling and the other in the electrostatic bag had one falling off. If you're not comfortable fixing SMT mounted capacitors, you may want to wait on these boards. Reaching out to the seller now.

2025-01-22 07:02:48 +0000 UTCThe PCB doesn't have a motor mount pins soldered on, nor are they included in the order. I think everyone who buys the motor has those plugs at the end, I think this could be a high quality of life improvement going forward if it was just plug and play. Especially given the goal of making it easy for people to assemble things.

2025-01-21 20:22:09 +0000 UTCPerfect, thank you!

2025-01-10 17:27:09 +0000 UTCLiterally just the motor. Everything else is on the board.

2025-01-10 17:24:46 +0000 UTCYep, the instructions will include the part electronics as well as the PCB.

2025-01-10 17:23:45 +0000 UTCYep. Fixed. Github link is in the store in any case.

2025-01-10 17:23:06 +0000 UTCI clicked the github link but it directed to the online store, is that a mistake?

2025-01-10 05:04:36 +0000 UTCI was wondering if I could still build the SSR1 beta with all those dedicated components as I already have them lying around here. The forthcoming build instructions will not only describe the version with the PCB, right? All the best, T!

2025-01-08 07:20:11 +0000 UTCI've been out of the loop for a bit. Is there a bom of remaining electrical parts needed to go with the custom board?

2025-01-08 00:17:23 +0000 UTCGet well soon T!
