A Modular Case

In this month's release is probably the most asked-after feature I've had to date: adding some heat to OSR2.

This is my solution. It's a modular case in four parts: a base ring should lock firmly into the OSR2 receiver, a lower section designed to hold a heater pad, a narrower upper section and a cap, which is interchangeable with the T-Valve.

These are actually some of the more complex parts I have released, and there are a lot of CAD hours behind them. They use a double-wall honeycomb structure that's incredibly stiff and lightweight but also massively reduces heat transfer through the case wall to the surroundings. That means that anything in there will stay warm for much longer, and very little power is needed to effectively heat the inside.

So for example a sleeve that's been heated in hot water will stay warm for much longer in this case.

In this month's $8 Patron post, along with the STL files I explain how to adapt a cheap USB pad heater to warm the inside of the case.

Why have I made the case modular? Well, partly because it makes printing and assembly easier. The main reason though is that I am working on some other modules that could be incorporated into this arrangement, for example a squeezing mechanism. You can expect me to develop this concept more in the future.

I would also like to encourage others to have go at designing their own modules.

Happy Building!

Do you mean integrate the case into the receiver?

TempestVR

Osr2 receiver and the top part of the modular case where one part. Is what I meant

Sorry, I don’t quite understand?

TempestVR

Search ebay or amazon for terms like “5V USB heater pad”

TempestVR

Will you have an option that is combined the upper part with arm reciver. ?

Clayfacer

Really cool any links on where to find the warmer?
