This sucks ;) - Sneak peek for May

Hi guys,

Guess what. The next update really sucks!

Good news. I think we're getting back to normal, and I am able to bring you an mid-month update and thank you for your continuing support with a sneak peek at what I will be releasing in May.

The popularity of the OSR2 appears to be snowballing, particularly amongst the video scripting community, so it seems to me that it would be most exciting to add some more functionality to it, rather than pursue a new machine with extra movement axes. At least in the short term.

I've been looking at a key component of the OSR2, namely the standard fleshlight case, and thinking about how it might be improved upon. A neat feature has always been that the level of suction can be controlled with the screw-on lid, but I found myself wondering what might be possible if the suction could be actively controlled in real time.

So, may I present to you the T-Valve. It screws on top like a regular cap, but it uses a 9g micro-servo to constantly adjust the air resistance in and out of the case during stroking. It means your T-Code device now has control and the level of suction can change, even from stroke to stroke!

I have already implemented a basic control routine that adds suction only to slow up-strokes without any special input from the driving software. Going forward though, especially as the community moves toward multi-dimensional scripting, I want to explore ways to add this as a controllable parameter to scripts.

I've also got other controllable functions in mind, such as heat, squeezing and vibration, so expect to see more of the 3D printed, insulated, modular case in the future. ;)

Let me know what you think: here or on Discord. Are these sorts of extras interesting to you? Or should I be looking at new machines with more degrees of freedom?

Happy building!

Just screw in a shop vac and your good to go

Thank you for your fantastic contributions. Realism is what really makes the OSR stand so much out. Go for more degree of freedom.

Why not use some sort of mini vacuum air pumps hooked to arduino. I found plenty of them on Ali. Oh, and we would have to find someone brave enough to test it :D

Mr.Dyngus

I am ok with it as-is and we can go from there. If you need it airtight you could run a rubber hose out of an endcap and have the servo press that closed as needed. Airflow might be restricted too much though depending on the hose size

Thanks. I'm going to make some changes before I release it.

TempestVR

Maybe. At the moment it doesn't need any special inputs because it's controlled by the stroke speed ie it only sucks when the stroke is slow. I've not thought yet how I would implement controlling it explicitly through VaM.

TempestVR

You're right that I could make the seal better, but it only has to be good enough, and when closed it is as good as having the cap fully screwed down. For most people that's actually far too intense most of the time, so I've actually spent a fair amount of time thinking how to implement having it partially open most of the time.

TempestVR

I'm not sure how much testing you've done with this design. In general, for a vent like this, you will get a much better seal using a softer material and/or adding some soft material onto the hard plastic to act as a gasket. A typical (shore 25-45 or so) silicone usually works. This does complicate assembly, since you either need to 3d print directly in the soft material or print parts of a mold in which to cast the RTV.

You could probably get away with a third the height of those, and bevel both sides?

Very clever, I dig it. One bit of feedback would be on the endcap to change/remove those flat-bottomed grip bits on the outside, as they could potentially catch on something.

Patron

did you plan to update vam plugin for these 'addon"?

MpMan

whoa , the future is amazing ( viva open source osr)

MpMan

Good way to go Tempest. Better to upgrade the OSR2 and FL case then a more DOF machine for my. I m looking for the releases 💪🤩👍

nonaak

Good start. Looking forward to your solution for heat and squeezing.

I’d love some heat... not a big fan of freezing my dong off for a few minutes while I try to get er done every night lol
