January has been incredibly exciting. Seeing the level of support I have been receiving from the community has been a real buzz, and it has spurred me on to getting a new machine out. I am very pleased with what I have to share with you today.
Meet the OSR2 (beta1).
I have learned a lot of lessons from the OSR3 and the result has been this design. It is 3D printed, which means that the part count is much reduced. It uses a small number of common, easy to source parts and few tools. It also requires no soldering whatsoever; it is entirely plug-and-play. It will mount to a VESA 100 or AMPS mount. I'm also very happy to be rid of the top arm; now there's a simple third arm arrangement keeping the receiver upright and it works really well. There's no third axis, but 2x 20kg-cm servos easily handle a full size fleshlight.
This is designed so that anybody can make it. No special maker skills are required! The build files include the 3D print files, a parts list and easy step-by-step assembly instructions. How to put it together, load the software, and so on.
So how am I releasing this? Well, I have put a heck of a lot of work into this design in the last few weeks, and as a consequence I have decided to create a new $8 tier. I will only be using it for my finished designs as I intend to continue with all of the rest of my exclusive content on the $2 tier. That's blog posts, videos, extra components, the discord server etc.
The software, for VaM and to drive the robots, will of course remain totally open source and free. The original OSR3 is of course still free. I also plan to eventually release older designs for free access as I develop new ones.
Going forward this month I have several exciting things I want to do. I plan to do a video build tutorial for the OSR2, as well as a couple of small modifications to improve it. After the success of Raser1's work adapting JFP for TCode I am excited to be working with some other creators who are interested in adding TCode to their own apps and plugins. I also want to re-visit the original OSR3 and, who knows, maybe you will be seeing a 3D printed OSR3 beta1 appearing soon.
Happy building!

P.S. Existing $2 supporters should check their inboxes ;)
