Listening to podcasts now that I’m on Patreon. I wish I knew them what I know now.

Alan Carr

If you don't feel confident jumping from WWI to WWII, personally I'd be more interested in a series focused on one of the conflicts between the two, which could also help to bridge the gap in knowledge.

Benjamin N

Othias’ and Mae, I hope things with IRS gets resolved quickly. I know you say to give what we can and what we feel what the show is worth, but after listening to what goes to making the show, I feel that I'm underpaying for it. I know you say you're not one to ask for handouts, but please don't underestimate your supporters; we love what you're doing and want to make sure you can keep doing CnArsenal. Looking forward to many more years of the show

JD92

Didn't realize you were struggling like this, I hope the IRS doesn't gut this project, and I hope you can get it down to 55 hours, that's honestly not that bad.

lovot

I’m giving you the $5 folks. The value on these 2 full episodes a month and the Repercussion and Its a Trap is well worth it

Drew Rebhorn

Month 16, year 2020. Hope things get better

Scott Howrey

I used to teach InDesign. Feel free to reach out to me with any questions. I may be a little rusty, but I'll do my best to help.

David Bock

I raised my pledge a little bit cause i don't want you to die Othais! Don't worry i can handle it! I really don't know how is your t-shirt and other campaings working. i haven't been able to take part to them cause shipping fees have been too big. Is there any possibilty to make somekind of Brownings FN Colt deal and to get somebody to sell and make your productions in europe to get shipping fees down?

eRahja

Thanks for all you do and thanks for sharing your difficulties. Feel free to blow off steam with your Patreon supporters. We love what you do, but take care of yourself first.

Glenn Miller

Probably going to be repeating a lot of what was said, but I truly appreciate what you guys do. I know it’s hard work and takes its toll on you guys but I want you to know that it means a lot to me and brings joy and knowledge. If the show has to go for the sanity and health of all of you, so be it. We, and I’m speaking for people I have no business speaking for, would rather see all of you guys good and able to continue in the community. But we aren’t there yet. Thanks for every episode and everything you guys do.

Fuck this

Sorry to hear about the IRS snafu. I feel ya, My accountant died when he was already behind then new accountant talked me into ADP for payroll. They made a mistake and paid IRS 12k too much and is after me to give them the 12k ADP was trying to drain bank acct.

John Stucchi

I certainly feel like I'm getting my money's worth! I certainly also understand about the conflicting goals of sleep and writing...

Dr. B

Sleep is a requirement, not a goal. A dead Othais cannot make more Primers or Repercussions, while a broke Othais could still make Squibs or something more differenter. Besides, we cannot have sleep deprivation detracting from C&Rsenal quality...

Andrey Gardner

Thats no joke, every year i try to go hunting. The first 30min i enjoy nature, sounds and smells. By one hour i am thinking about all the things i should be doing. At 1hr 15 min i am going back to the house to do research, order parts, or the “books”

Maz

No need to up! Just stay with us.

C&Rsenal

knock on wood, we've fallen off their radar for the moment. Though I find it interesting it's no secret now that mentioning certain things is an instant suspension.

C&Rsenal

Honestly this sort of mess from what was a simple overhead failure is insanity.

C&Rsenal

We're paddling

C&Rsenal

Thanks for the support!

C&Rsenal

Please don't feel the need to overpay! The book and sleep are mutually conflicting goals just to be clear, Doc.

C&Rsenal

Oh man don't we know it! have you don that thing where you try to unplug and just be somewhere else... but you just start having anxiety for being "lazy" instead?

C&Rsenal

I understand fully why most businesses fail.

C&Rsenal

Just upped my contribution. You are doing excellent work and I'm proud to be supporting you guys in some slight way.

Sabertooth88

The patronage of art is not a function of products market value. The subsidizing the struggle against the YT platform is also of value.

Andrey Gardner

It is a shame that we have allowed our Federal Government to grow so large and take so much power. It is evident that they dislike small business. They want everyone beholden to the large corporations... easier to deal with the people that way. Anyway, a good summer project for myself... re-read the the Anti-Federalist essays from Centinel, Brutus and Federal Farmer and compare their thoughts to our current Federal system.

Brian Foster

It is NOT a distortion of the value. 2+ hours of content every two weeks, is well worth my 5 bucks. I feel like I am under paying tbh.

Eric Sammywaifu

I also appreciate the honesty. It makes me sad, but not in a bad way. I just wish I could support the channel more. I appreciate and enjoy this content so much. Hang in there Othias and May, and everyone else who helps C&Rsenal.

Eric Sammywaifu

Thank you for all the work y’all putting in to create content. I really enjoy watching your channel. So glad YouTube suggested your channel to me few years ago.

Charles Perkins

First, I just doubled my monthly membership. You're taking my money whether you like it or not! Second, I have seen the negative effects from lack of sleep. If you cannot get a full night's sleep, then you are definitely better off doing short sleep than no sleep. I'm a doctor, you can trust me. :) Third, great news about the book! Many of us have been encouraging you on this for some time and I'm glad to hear you're going forward on it!

Dr. B

These are wonderful! I feel like a shareholder and not just a patron. I wish the companies I owned shares in gave me as much information and honesty. We patrons really are your shareholders are Dividends are the value of your information. Wonderful stuff. Keep it up.

Dr Don Hurley

This hit me right in the feels. As a fellow business owner who continues to screw himself instead of screwing others, i know the pain. The stress is insurmountable, it ebbs but i never goes away. With in 6 months of starting my buisness i went up 60 lbs. i have been tested for everything and and my diet isnt poor. They tell me to reduce stress levels, how the hell do yo do that? I have a wife and two kids, the business and life issues it sounds like othias also went through. Silly drs just want me to de stress, haa i barely sleep let alone de stress. Hell some times if i do dream, i am doing work in them. Sometimes i think i would just die if adrenaline stoped pumping through my veins. Sometimes i use your therapy session to commiserate and find a little peace. I apologize if this is annoying. I mostly listen to your shows while i work. You openness and honesty is refreshing in society of asking people how they are, but not caring what the answer might be. Rambling over wasted too much time typing.

Maz

People get so wrapped up in tyranny in the representative government but nobody talks about how the IRS is this faceless unaccountable monster that completely destroys lives and businesses.

History&Coffee

That's brilliant! Done the style of a b&w cinema card. Or: 'Othias and Mae have gone on a shooting holiday. Normal service will resume in 2 weeks time'. Pew pew pew.... Dacka dacka dacka

Bradwan

Well now that we're just going to straight forward the 1911 at some point, even that will blow the old c96 and P08 episodes out.

C&Rsenal

You guys are fantastic, and both of you have brought more smiles to my face than I can count. I hope to enjoy this show for a long time to come and I'm gonna do my part to support it.

PaladinOfSteel

Nothing!? A Gofundme might save the show, and that's the something!

Joseph Corsei

Livestream the card. Preferably at a local range where it slowly gets shot away...

Puritanus

Nah, I’ll get you more ramen than that! Maybe even a little protein to vary the diet.

Puritanus

Yeah there for sure is, hold on, I'll message you an explanation of how to do it.

Justin Baird

I hold your work in the highest regard, and I will defy my lord's wishes and continue with my write-in amount.

Alden Skinner

By the way. Redos of both the C96 AND the P08? This Germanophile is positively giddy with anticipation!

David Axel Hansen

Weirdly enough, I've taken this opportunity to nab some of the more modern stuff that's been on my list. The milsurp guys are getting awfully randy now.

Joseph Corsei

Don't get me wrong, I'll happily pick up another shirt and look forward to my signed book. But, I'd like to press back a bit. And I'm not a personal friend and you don't know me, but having heard a lot of podcasts (and assuming you're being genuine, which is clear) I'd like to think I could at least say this: It is never something for nothing. I buy the shirts because they're clever and always a good conversation point (since most of the people in my life don't give a crap about historic firearms). I watch the show because this is where I am informed and entertained. I give on patreon because: one, I don't have the time to do the work myself and frankly, you do it a hell of a lot better than I can. And specifically, I think the work is important and ought to be done. Given my millionaire fantasy, which is explicitly a fantasy because I don't play the lottery and am but at humble winemaker (the pay ain't great), there are still absolutely expectations on the other side of the table. The prestige of the research consortium needs to grow, scholarship would need to be top notch, publishing, hell: conferences, providing budding researchers and historians real career experience, fundraising for an expanded endowment etc. It isn't a free ride. Isn't their something to be said for taking on the challenge and (though the resources are much more available) pushing for growth and expansion. Ultimately bud, I want you to be happy and healthy and to keep cranking out the work you are because no one is doing it as well. Ian is great but he has gone for breadth rather than depth, The Chilean Mauser book is great but is too narrow. You've got a niche. Keep at it man. Don't lose faith because you're doing damned good work and I appreciate it very much.

Josh Neil

Such is the market. We all know milsurp was cheaper than it's cost to reproduce...

C&Rsenal

There is a vague element of this in the plan

C&Rsenal

Poor Mae is right there in it.

C&Rsenal

This beautiful vision of me you've created would fracture if you saw me with the last chili cheese fry in the community pot. Thanks for the support!

C&Rsenal

Thats what the engineer is paid to do (while the machinist calls him an idiot and shows him how it needs to be done to actually work)

Gage

The thing is, there's real value in what Othias and Mae are doing. It's actual fact-based history. Thinking his work isn't worth what we contribute is kinda insulting, because we the contributors see the effort put into the episodes. Most of us know that functioning 100+ year old guns aren't just lining up in pawn shops to be picked up for pennies on the dollar and we want to see the series through to the proper conclusion, at the same level of detail we've all come to love. Take the increases in Patreon support and run with it, and for gawd's sake take care of yourself, you're worth nothing to us if you're in an ICU or worse.

John Thomas

thank

C&Rsenal

I can't even imagine how hard that would be to get right...

C&Rsenal

I just couldn't do it though. I'm not a something-for-nothing kind of guy. We'll do the usual T-shirt campaign and then get this book out. Should help plenty.

C&Rsenal

Thats what paint is for

Gage

It's appreciated but thankfully the answer isn't to milk you lot, it's to grow.

C&Rsenal

Now I'm imagining having like 5 different types and colors of siding..

C&Rsenal

best I can accept is $3

C&Rsenal

Too much!

C&Rsenal

I would but to be honest a lot of this is my own lack of awareness that early on. Obviously predicting the duplication would have been impossible but I should have been able to fend off the accusation easier. Our vulnerability on the expense issue is definitely my fault for not being tighter on receipts and it's my mess to clean up.

C&Rsenal

Mama never taught me to ask for something for nothing.

C&Rsenal

I feel like this should have made it worse!

C&Rsenal

They do actually. They've just been very narrow the past year and a half bc we haven't been able to do the usual campaign.

C&Rsenal

Is there a way to put like... a lorem ipsum title on the master and just edit the text on each page or am I stuck with the copy/paste/guide lines method?

C&Rsenal

I can't do it though, I hate the scummy ads so much.

C&Rsenal

In this case they don't even actually know how much I made. They assume it's nearly double.

C&Rsenal

No, invite your friends! Stay low on patronage bc you'll likely stick around.

C&Rsenal

Just gotta design some to fit in with the country series.

C&Rsenal

Less perfectionist? But we're running the show well below my expectations already!

C&Rsenal

I feel you on the market nonsense regarding the 1900. Whether it's new or old, online auction prices have ramped up dramatically and it's no doubt due to the pandemic stuffing people in their homes, even more wealthy folks. I wish I could help you with the 1900 but even I've been running dry thanks to recent trends. This shit just plain sucks butts. Maybe one day you can do your master 1911 plan in the distant future, I bet it would still be awesome as a one-off later on.

Joseph Corsei

Othias, take some, or all, of your Primer scripts, assemble them into a book (or books), call Ian and his guys at Headstamp, do a Kickstarter and raise half a million dollars. I would buy it.

Ryan D Thorne

Love the show and the content. Just ordered the Three Pig Blue poster. Mae & Suze: Do what you can to keep Othais for working himself to death.

Jason

More black powder guns please Sir.

Chris Marchi

This, my parents get constant automated threat letters from the IRS demanding immediate payment over an ongoing 6+ year long audit despite communicating with them regularly through their tax attorneys. They can literally be ignored. The days of them being able to just drain your bank accounts first and make you prove your innocence afterwards are thankfully gone... And horrifying that they were allowed to do that as recently as the late 2000's. The IRS really love auditing people with foreign earned income credit. >__>

Planescaped

Hugs to you all! Do what you have to do. You all are worth it! But do not sacrifice your health..

Tim Black

If the IRS is anything like literally every other government bureaucracy right now, then the few people who have been working over the past year have been working from home and their individual workload has increased exponentially. Not just because they're having to cover down on other's work, but also because the IRS has had to change gears rapidly to get those COVID relief payments out. I guarantee you that those threat letters from them are mailed out via an automated process that uses the same printers and snail mail system that the refund and COVID checks use. There may be a few people physically at the IRS but those people are just there to keep the lights on and the machinery running. Any adjudication against you would require them to go through the federal judicial system which is virtually shut down right now. They have to give you the opportunity to defend yourself in a court of law in order to take money away from you because of that whole pesky Fourth Amendment thing. Those letters and designed to sound threatening to scare you into paying up in case you actually were trying to defraud them. It's annoying that you would have to hire a lawyer through this and COVID hasn't helped any, but everybody that still has a government job over the last year has been just as overworked as you.

Jonathon Payne

If working for yourself was easy, then everyone would do it. The people that work for themselves are the kind of people that even if things we're going perfect they would still work hours that normal folks like me would view with terror. Othais seems like the kind of guy who puts absolutely everyone and everything before himself. If ever there was a character from Nabokov brought into real life, his name would be Othais. I'm at the the $3 tier and maybe I will to a re-evaluation of what this show is worth to me in terms of hours watched. Do I watch C&Rsenal more than Disney+? Yes. Amazon Prime? Yes. Netflix? Yes. Public television. No, but I don't give money to my local PBS station and maybe that's a problem. Let me think and determine if C&Rsenal is worth more than $3 to me. Seems like it is, and I should give more. I don't buy patches or merch because I really have no need for little knick knacks. I'm not a firearms owner and have no desire to become one. I just really enjoy the history and seeing how things work. Othais is an amazing story teller and a great communicator of information. That's what hooked me in and keeps me coming back to the show. The effort of the whole team is unmatched in any other production I've watched. Every name on that credit list is making a huge effort to produce a product that comes with so much information. I'm rambling here at this point, but I really do enjoy the show.

Robert Santamaria

That holster picture looks great, it’s going to be an awesome peace. Thank you for all the suffering you endure for us. I love the project and what it has grown into

Brock Gouett

In a scientific paper, a short summary at the beginning of it is called the "abstract". What you want out of your intro paragraphs sounds like basically the same thing.

Andrew Start

If othias could get the investment and the partnership to start a company to make reproduction burgess folding shotguns, I KNOW those would be sucessful. I would buy 3. Its got the same appeal as his Origami Fever Dream Kel-teck, but its a shotgun. I can already see the ad now: Othias steps out and in slow motion, flicks both his kel-tek and the burgess out in each hand simultaneously, and dual weilds them both. His company would be the Origami Syndicate FFL

Gage

Agreed!

Gage

GoFundMe for legal/home defense is a good idea, but it’s a patch on a bigger wound. The show has incredibly high overhead and for good reasons. I’m not saying fixing overhead is the goal, but surely we can come up with some options for the guy to boost bottom line. Sponsors would be great but you have the issue of them wanting to. Brownells has stepped up in the past but their more reasonable tie would be to anvil. What about publishers? Schiffler? Headstamp probably isn’t set up quite right for it as they aren’t doing continuous prints. Collector grade is on the way out. My, if I hit the lottery plan, is: take a sum of money, say $5m, and create a research trust that othias is made steward of. Trust is invested in primarily mutual bonds, holding individual bonds, not etfs or mutual funds. Should yield 3-5% year over year which in $5m is approx a yearly budget of the trust for $150k-250k. Budget allocated to college internship, library construction, maybe go whole hog and contract in a type 07 SOT into the org to build a reference collection that can actually be maintained. Etc. I’m spit balling here, but the last guy I worked for pulled your hours and had 2 open heart surgeries because of it. This is what we’re trying to avoid people. There has to be a way to make this sustainable.

Josh Neil

If it is a choice between your health and not posting a film when due then sod the deadline. If something went wrong on BBC Television in the early days there would be a film of a pot being made on a wheel; or even a title card 'Sorry for the break in service.' I know your head would explode if you missed an up-load; but if you could manage it in a structured way it might help you refocus. If I saw a card saying 'Sorry but Othias and Mae have gone on holiday, normal service will be resumed in 2 weeks time.' I would cheer!

Bradwan

availability of THOSE calibers! well screw some content watch your health. great. state does whatever state wants. sucks bigtime. it is state AND federal stateside?! sounds as double trouble. I know your issues others issues... covid shortwork hrs with a shitty company look for others in covid.... would hate to loose ya but do what ya have to do.

Guido Schriewer

You’re getting a few extra bucks out of me, I don’t care what you say. This show is worth more to me than I could ever afford to give, but I’ll do what I can. The work you all do is priceless for fans of history, fans of guns, and the second amendment as a whole.

Doug Brown

Agreed. Ill buy extras to give as gifts also. Gotta get that Money into Othias pocket

Gage

Another trick that some Youtube channels do, is when its sponsor/ad time, they put up a message like "If you want to skip the ad, skip to 3:45 in the video". That way people dont HAVE to watch the sponsorship but you do get sponsor money!

Gage

I would donate to that GoFundMe

Gage

We patreons need to hook Othias up. A mans house is his castle, but it is also Othias & Mae's office. If that house falls apart then there will be no show. I think the GoFundMe ideas are great. Also, if anyone knows a local Charleston contractor who might be willing to volunteer time, maybe someone else is willing to volunteer some spare materials to fix the siding for example. If just a few people pitched in, I think we could make a big difference. I would do free work on that house but Charleston is far from Texas.

Gage

Sometimes you just got to let it out and vent. It's not healthy to bottle it in. With any company the investor needs to hear the truth and you can only do what is realistically possible. I personally wouldn't expect you to do anything that is not tenable with the difficulties you are having to deal with. Just keep your chin up and do the great work you constantly do. Thank you for your time and your professionalism.

Adam Junemann

You guys are great. You got me through the absolute sleep deprivation that came with the birth of my third child, and have given me so much great information about WWI (a topic I was already very interested in). Take heart, I think there are far more people who love your work and never say anything than you can know. Cranks and irritable types make a ton more noise per capita than satisfied customers, in my experience, so don’t let them get you down. And I’m glad to know what’s going on - I’m happy to pitch in a bit more knowing where things are. Keep up the great work on the podcasts!

Puritanus

I value this show to $20/month, and give it every month as I can. If there were a good way for me to help another way, I would happily volunteer time - not that that's likely from the Upper Midwest.

David Axel Hansen

I think you guys should setup a legal defence fund on GoFundMe. You could also make a sodoms touch patch for big donations i think people would get a kick out it

Jesse

If you guys wanted to do a straight up GoFundme campaign for a disaster fund, I'd contribute and try to spread the word Very excited about the book

Daniel Burwell

These make my boring work day fly by and I thank you guys for that

Cosmic Atrophy

Yikes do the prints/posters ever make enough to help out?

LFD Research

Good luck with writing your book! Currently in the middle of my own and i understand the sleepless nights, going back into the document and adding new info, changing chapters, learning, fixing errors, being corrected, etc. I'm interested to see what yours is about, and I'm sure it'll be fantastic. Oh also if you want any tips for Indesign, ask away! I (and I'm sure others here) could help you out.

Justin Baird

It's not Primer episodes made out of order, it's prequel spinoffs to expand the lore!

Lumpytusk

If my choices were: Have the show end or Have to listen to a 3-5 min sponsorship (even the scummy ones) I'd rather have the show. I grew up with 10 mins of commercials for 20 mins of TV.

Jake Rutten

Pretty sure it's extortion when they can't tell you how much money you owe, but you better pay it or we show up with warrants and machineguns. The work you guys do is dissertation class historical work that people like watching. At least I do. If you can keep doing it, please do.

Ivanovitch2885

Regarding the "TAXMAN".....I know a guy, An's cousin, Guido...

Dr Don Hurley

OMG! People, UP your Patreon!

Alden Skinner

I'm in on the shirts, point me to the purchase page.

John Thomas

In the first ten minutes, I pictured Othias laying with his head in Mae's lap and she's petting his hair as he vents about his frustrations. I know you can't be less perfectionist than you are, or best yourself up less for not being perfect in what you've created, so I won't tell you to relax. Just try to keep up the episodes and if you need a break before your head pops off like a suicide bomber's, please do so.
