Reprocussion 001: Colt Paterson Revolver No.5

Alright boys and girls, we've got our first of the new series ready for Tuesday release, but of course ya'll get first crack at it before we make it public later tonight.  (I'm wondering how many non-patron viewers in the public release, i.e. the ones who don't know we like to create playful titles, will try to correct us on the series title spelling and not get the word combo.)  Enjoy!

WRT the "fewer cap jams back in the day," that is entirely plausible since they were using soft copper caps vs. the brass cups [or even soft iron: iirc, Duellist1954 was waxing irked in one of his vids about encountering such things during this most recent ammo & possibles drought?] used today...

Bruce Brodnax

And time! You guys are always racing the clock...

Bruce Brodnax

Up close & personal, they not only kill ya but incinerate your corpse into the bargain! 😄

Bruce Brodnax

Do ya’ll need a brass framed pietta 1851 in .44 for the show?

David Sowers Jr

Eventually all things are possible

C&Rsenal

Ok, so Sharps is happening, right? This won't be confined to pistols?

J.Walton

Thanks for the tip!

Petter Bøckman

It was the perfect set up for a VPN or online data backup. Carbonite was what popped up in my head, but it works for NordVPN too. A Nebula or Utreon plug would have fit too, with how much YT disappear non cat videos. What would happen with the algorithm if Minute of Mae included cat footage?

Andrey Gardner

Pashik, got it

C&Rsenal

I wish we had one!

C&Rsenal

Oh nice

C&Rsenal

Sorry about that, I don't have a different link. Are you having a problem with the NRK-link, or the digitaltmuseum-link? If it's the NRK-link it could be because some of the content on NRK is only avalible to norwegian ip-adresses, I didn't think about that when I posted the links. Searching on google, I found this article in GunsAmerica, witch sums up the history quite well. https://www.gunsamerica.com/digest/the-worlds-oldest-revolver-1597/

Bendik Nilsen Bergendal

Shucks, I was going to point out the mistake last week but figured "Oh, someone has surely beaten me to it..." Still, thanks for the correction! I'm sure I'll watch it again sometime, and having a corrected version to watch will keep my eye from twitching... ;-)

Bruce Brodnax

"Comanches" fwiw. But I like your post!

Bruce Brodnax

Getting a "broken link" (file not found) page in Norske. Got a permalink?

Bruce Brodnax

We have a hard time getting the Continental percussion revolvers here, because 1) Nobody makes repops & 2) a huge number of U.S. percussion firearms were shipped to Yurp for the Franco-Prussian war, which led to the demand for repops of them here during the centennial of the CW, which pretty much *created* the reproduction market [thank you, Val Forgett & Navy Arms!] I think the CapandBall channel on YT is your best bet if you want to see European percussion arms, since he can shoot originals that are still in circulation there...

Bruce Brodnax

I'll take the chance & reply for Othais here: "Yes, availability allowing."

Bruce Brodnax

I like it, so I'm awarding you +1 cleverness pt. You're welcome!

Bruce Brodnax

Super appreciating you doing things like this, but I really wonder if it wouldn't make more sense to just make a separate corrections video and link it with an annotation/card/whatever-they're-doing-nowadays from the main video, as that would probably keep the algorithm happier.

Niklas Edgren

Mae Responding: Ok so someone wisely pointed out an error in the episode, we have since fixed it. The new link has been copied over the original on this post. Fixed points and error have been pinned as the top comment on the episode. Thank you to everyone for your support!

C&Rsenal

great new sequence

Dan

"Mae, would you carry this gun into Bandera Pass and use it against Cammanches?"

History&Coffee

This is great timing for me, who have just gotten into percussion revolvers after aquiring an old Colt 1861 Navy. Great information and presentation! Looking forward to the next part in this series.

Viktor Henning

Nice episode, I like percusion revolvers. On the subject of old revolvers, the oldest one I have seen is one held at Maihaugen collection. Acording to the museum, it was made in 1597 by Hans Stopler of Nürnberg, and brought to Norway by Major general Georg Reichwein in 1636. The links below are for the museum website and an article by the Norwegian broadcaster NRK, if anyone are interested. Unfortunately it is all in Norwegian, but the pictures are nice. https://www.nrk.no/innlandet/_-verdens-eldste-revolver-1.11628328 https://digitaltmuseum.no/011022448966/revolver

Watching the body language on May's hands while attempting to use the percussion cap loader, I was half expecting her to throw it away on camera after it failed to fit.

Library of Context

I did so very much enjoy the new black powder series! This even though I own no B.P. firearms, nor do I have any interests/desires to venture outside of my current firearms endeavors! Additionally, much congratulations to Mae on her very evident successes battling weight gain! She's looking simply fabulous in this latest C&Rsenal offering and even the gray streak is quite becoming!

Merry Christmas my Friends

Charles F Walker

I know you started with colts but I really can't wait for you to find some weird and wonderful BP guns to blather on about for a few hours. :-)

Gerald Drake

The new Reprocussion series launch AND a new Anvil on the same day? I'm giddy!

Alden Skinner

Passaic is pronounce puh-say-ick. No big deal, but I'm from New Jersey and feel obligated.

Jeffrey Benfer

I look forward to checking this out once I'm awake enough to watch it

James Janssen

What a fantastic way to bring us content on unattainable firearms. I hope you can continue to expand into other areas of firearms history. Best value for the money I’ve ever spent. Thank you so much for taking up the task of bringing out the history.

Daniel Falch

Let me just say, and I'm not proud of it. I screamed like a little girl when I saw this was a thing! The Patterson Revolver is a hell of a story and I can't wait to watch it tonight.

Kyle Hughes

Am I the only one that felt "While we are talking about being insecure about things, and being worried about data..." was going to be followed up with "I'd like to mention our sponsor for this episode, .?"

Andrey Gardner

Can't wait for the stocked revolvers from the Civil War era.

Ron

looks to be a great new series. love it. I'm a sucker for revolvers anyway.

Guido Schriewer

I think it is Repro(duction)(per)cussion.

Ron

Great idea for a series. I have a Umberti colt Navy great fun to shoot and I proudly display it along with my guns that are original

Derrick Smith

Something near my heart. Love my percussion revolvers!

Polybun

Ok we have a series on all the small arms of WWI, and we are adding in some fun hand trap stuff to prime the pump for our shotgun series.. wait what’s that, an occasional series on reproduction black powder cap and ball revolvers?!? Great! Get it in here! Love it👍🏻

Pat Houlihan

Been eagerly awaiting this series. First you assemble your caps, balls, wads, powder, powder measure, powder flask, ball starter, ramrod, lube, loading stand, capping tool, nipple wrench, nipple pick, and oh yeah the gun. Now we go through our checklist: is this the right size cap, the right granluation of powder, the correct charge of powder, the right size and weight of ball, the proper degree of compression on the charge? Then Mae hits a 9" target at 60 yards with a Patterson.. .Offhand! Something I'd be hard pressed to accomplish from a rest with my Walker. Fun?!

Wayne Dygert

this looks like it will be a fun series. I would love to see this expand to black powder cartridges (with accompanied development in revolvers) and that would set you up to go into a nightmare of acquisition and research for a series on the transition to smokeless and automatics.

Mr. Lee

You can read the Universal Compendium here https://archive.org/details/TheCompleteCompendiumOfUniversalKnowledge

Bradwan

Excellent! This is a splendid addition to the Primer series! Are you planning to have a look at pepperboxes and some of the British and French percussion revolver too?

Petter Bøckman

Okay, I'll bite. What's the play on words behind the name Reprocussion? Might just be up too late to get the joke. XD

Kyle Clark

This looks great, looking forward to this series with interest :) PS I have an excellent reproduction Rogers and Spencer, you may want to consider including one of those in your series, time permitting...

Peter Slinn

The wad and gr.ease have nothing to do with flash over. Over sized lead balls leaving a ring of lead sealed the chamber and prevented flash over. Flash over occurs at the nipples Check Duelist 1954 on YouTube. On the Patterson I might put the caps on before loading the cylinder. ETA: capping first probably wouldn't work pressing the ball into the cylinder would pop the cap off the back.

Kelly D West

Really excited for this series.

Arie

It's a matter of being able to remain static for the camera

C&Rsenal

If I were really clever I'd pick a good name.

C&Rsenal

Time and interest will tell!

C&Rsenal

I haven't even watched it yet and I already like it. This will have to wait for the morning to be watched.

TankDestroyerSarge

Paterson? or Reichsrevolver? LOL

Cobra Commander

Congratulations on getting the first episode of this new series published. As always, you provided excellent context and relevant history.

David Hemsath

Oh I agree, I was honestly only half joking. I mean wouldn't want to be shot by anything, but especially not one of those huge horse pistols like the dragoon

Gage

but using a loading stand? "come on. man"

koyote

we laugh, but my tenant pays his rent each month on horseback, and carries a walker and a remington navy. Uses them, too. I would be lying if I didn't admit that I've carried my original remington navy conversion (yeah, I like nifty crass cartridges) as an EDC for an event a few times for spectacle purposes.

koyote

Reeeeeeeee

Sopwith Cameltoe

My suggestion was to hyphenate it to "Repro-cussion" but idk it looks weird now that I've typed it out

Joseph Corsei

Excellent!

John

Have you given any thought to covering cartridge conversions as part of this series, or will you strictly stick to percussion guns?

Chris Hamlin

I'm wondering how many non-patron viewers... will try to correct us on the series title spelling" ... I'm guessing nearly as many as think your name is 'Othias', but not quite.

Brendan Funnell

Cant wait to see how mae ranks these for EDC
