Wednesday Review - American Made

So someone told me it's the 4th.  I completely lost the date because, as is tradition before I have to travel out of town, all hell is breaking loose.  So here is an American made gun for you patrons!

Honestly though I'm just trying to push ahead enough to install a dual battery setup on my "new" 2004 Suburban we got back in January.

1. The internet for, basically the county, went out nearly 24 hours.  This was during my 2nd research day for the next set of episodes, which sorta messed everything up royal.  But adapt and overcome.

2. I picked up an '87 Winchester on the cheap.  The action is immaculate which is great bc those old black powders are often smooshed bad.  The butt plate and forend pieces are missing however.  Which would not be a problem if it was a bit newer, but nope, I lucked into the early pattern.  The one no parts are available on.  So I guess I wait for a ratted out action with good parts to make it work.

3. Mae has been enjoying the guinea pig filming way too much.  But we are so running out of ideas.  I hope they're fun though.

4. I think I said this, but we're heading West.  We'll be in Cody around the 13th and after a few days there we'll cruise on home via the Kansas City route.  I'll try to get you guys updates as we get moving for some get-togethers.  Currently the timetable is a mess of panicked driving.

5. I also think I want one of those tents for the top of your car.  But they seem pricey... but they seem easy... but pricey...

Good luck out there in Wyoming. Just stopped by the World War I Museum in KC today. Each time, I notice something that I didn't the previous times, but this time I also found myself looking at the first row of rifles and handguns when you enter the "Pre-USA" wing, and with maybe one or two exceptions, I recognized them all from Primer. It was the weirdest sensation, and it gave me a greater appreciation for the human factor of the war, knowing that each of these weapons had a story and that I was in on at least part of that story. So thanks for that!

Those rooftop car tents are popular here in the Top End of Australia. Being up high is useful when you're camping in crocodile country. Also, I see that the internet has bought a ton of T-shirts, just to spite you, so I'd get thinking up some ideas. Can I suggest some kind of guinea pig version of Project Lightening?

Adam Snook

... we have a lot of equipment and people to carry. I'm afraid the bed is spoken for!

C&Rsenal

I did consider it. Bonus: I get a toy Jeep Kaiser.

1) No internet = time to sleep. Just sayin'... 2) Yay! We get to see Mark demonstrate how to make new furniture from unobtainium!.. 3) "The hiiiills are aliiiive, with the sound of NOMNOMNOM..." X-D 4) The occasional progress report would be nice. "We passed the Mississippi" "There's a LOT of corn in Kansas..." "You know what, that continental divide thingy is just a line on a map, there's no way to actually see it, we tried..." 5) Newsflash: you drive a *Suburban*, you've already got the tent built in! If you had a pickup, just pick up your basic 2-man wedge tent & erect it in the bed; worked just fine for me for at least a decade before they ever came out with the "special model-specific tent you can set up in back of your truck that you may as well give away when you trade up to your next vehicle." Of course, I never had to camp in the rain w/ it, but then, that just sounds like a perfect excuse to splurge on a hotel & hot showers... Have a safe & productive journey!

And not a cheap nylon mesh, plastic hole-in-the-dot band either [but you already knew that...] ;-)

Tremors with Crozier as a Graboid

If you’re driving down I-20 and need a rest stop hit me up. Wife and I live just outside of Atlanta on the East and just off the interstate.

C&Rsenal, HATS next time PLEASE! Bought 3 tee shirts but that is a lifetime supply when added to the rest. Thank you!

Bo Decatur

Simpler = better?

C&Rsenal

They don't make them at all.

C&Rsenal

This feels... challenging but not impossible.

C&Rsenal

I believe we're crossing Nashville on our way back.

C&Rsenal

At some point, I'm going to sleep.

C&Rsenal

I'm sure I'll be dismantling that early next year! I am fairly certain Houze is no longer on staff but I'm not sure what his involvement is now.

C&Rsenal

Yep, we'll be there for some of the collector show and then a conference.

C&Rsenal

Happy 4th!

C&Rsenal

I'm glad to hear it. Stay safe!

C&Rsenal

Gotta save gas and combine destinations!

C&Rsenal

I am fairly sure we're not legally allowed in that city...

C&Rsenal

So what you have there is a 2-shot SA revolver without all that troublesome "making the cylinder turn with a hand and other finicky gubbins" business to worry about.

Christopher Dooley

I don't think they makes those in NY anymore.

Andrew MacDougall

As far as ideas for Crozier, I think something like Return of the Jedi with Crozier as the Rancor would probably work well.

litgeek

I enjoy the drive out to the Cody area and have done it 2 or 3 times in the past 5 years. I try to hit Sierra and Hornady along the way to load up on relatively cheap seconds. Please let us know if you come through Nashville.

If you've already driven as far as Cody, you may just as well drive another 8 hours and go over to Ogden, Utah. The local historical museum has the John Browning collection - all of the hand-made prototypes - on display. Yes, it sounds like a long way - but it's Out West, where people will drive 300 miles round trip to go to the better Dairy Queen.

Edward Brush

If you stop by the Firearms museum, see if the Curator Emitus H.G. Houze is still there. In his book on Winchester history, he states that John Browning didn't have anything to do with the Winchester Model 1897 shotgun. The museum has the original 1897 patent model of a slide action shotgun that was never produced that he submitted per Bennet's request for modifications on the 1893 shotgun. You should ask them about it.

1. Re the "Weet!" vid: BWAHAHAHA! Though I'm a little concerned that you'd parody yourself as an adult in a Peanuts cartoon. "Waa waa waa waa waa waaaaaaaa". 2. BE WARNED! Cody is a magical place you will NEVER be finished in. Dad & I spent from open to close on day one and from open to 3pm on day two, leaving only because he had to eat and we had to roll. . .and we weren't trying to film anything. Be prepared to apply some discipline - otherwise you'll act like a pointer puppy in a field with 3 billion pheasants. . .and they'll find your bleached skeletons somewhere between the M1 Carbine prototypes and John Browning's un-produced patent models. 3. Good on the 1887! Eager to see a Bruno animation for that one, as they are just plain WEIRD! 4. Bed of Suburban: will get you some pics from under the shell of our Tundra hunting rig - configured to sleep two AND carry stuff. Might solve some problems for you.

Erik

I'm going to be on a motorcycle trip out west. I'll be in Cody on the 14th and 15th.

Enjoy your trip! Happy Firecracker Day🎆

Wayne Dygert

I was bugging you for detail on your motorcycle touring last year. I was jealous. Not long after I snapped and got back on two wheels after 20 years away, and after as bit of a false start I've now got two motorcycles. I should thank you for that. Have a good post-colonial holiday, you've all earned it. Webley's Rule!

chris hodgson

If only you guys would come up a little bit and take Interstate 80 and down

Lucas Hagg

If you guys are passing by Chicago, let me know! I'll treat ya'll to lunch/dinner if I'm home.
