Happy New Year!

So where are we at as we start 2019?

1. In just one week I have to film a secret project over 3 days.  It's going to be the most challenging and demanding thing I have ever done in terms of sheer volume of footage etc that needs to go correctly.

2. Despite not reaching our funding goal to onboard Mae full time, we did it anyway because I was about to collapse.  The transition is in its 3rd week and I'm actually only doing direct episode work for about 30 hours a week now.  This leaves me the other 20-30 to handle this special project for now, and later to try different growth ideas.  However, I'm back to a ramen diet.

3. Onboarding happened just as the Patreon drama started, so once the secret project is done I'm going to investigate some direct subscription/funding options.

That's about it for my radar right now.  I hope everyone got some time with the family!  Here's to a whole year of improvements!

Happy New Year!

I just increased my donation from $5 to $10 a month. I love you guys so much.

What form of media these days is without drama? Your loyal fans that wait ever patiently for your next installment aren't going anywhere unless it is to follow you. Lead on Othais. As for the rest of us..... Othais, Mae and the supportive gang of fellow travelers has shown us all a level of effort and dedication seldom seen over the long-run. For those that can, I'd suggest upping our support. After all I think we'd all hate to see Othais waste away on a diet of ramen noodles and water.....or have to cut back on beard maintenance:)

To be fair, I don't blame anyone for being on one side or the other. However, it still limits growth. My personal opinion is that platforms like this are best served by observing the law and otherwise remaining neutral, as this presents the most growth opportunity to creators. They can, however, decide otherwise as a private company.

I'll take a look!

We've considered a podcast in a few forms, but it has been just too much to tackle. Thank you for sharing the content though!

Thank you for the understanding. It seems there is no way to avoid the fallout these days and, instead, we'll just have to stay flexible.

I do have a personal YouTube account..

Othais by any chance do you watch Matt Christiansen? A comment off his weekly podcast had you name attached, and I was super pumped to think we watched the same stream

I appear to be the minority here but I absolutely love Patreon and some of the choices they've recently made. That said, I do want to keep supporting the show because you do excellent work. If you come up with a direct subscription option, I'd be onboard, but I have limited trust in alternate platforms.

yet another use for a shotgun.

Investigate Dwolla. They just transitioned to have more of a Paypal sort of processing structure, but I don't recall them ever having an anti-firearm slant [they began in Iowa, iirc, so solid mid-Western values could be behind that?]

Bruce Brodnax

All of the above.

Wherever ya'll go, I will follow. But until you get something else up and running, I'm not going anywhere. I dont want to see you guys fold just because of some drama. Stay strong, and thank you for all the amazing content!

Matt

I really hope an alternative to Patreon is forthcoming in the next following months, for quite a few of the creators I support.

Chris Crowther

You already can; you can do a custom pledge and put whatever amount you want.

Hope the coming year is good to all of us.

Make it so people can give 500$ per month and everything up from 5$. There are absolutely mad men out there with deep pockets.

I wish there were more I could do at the start of this year for you all. Most my Patreon money goes toward you and Mark to be honest, and I’ve been posting more of your stuff on Facebook pages. I know this is a big ask, but have you all thought about taking the audio from your videos for a podcast? Maybe you all could do that and get a few sponsors? Just thinking.

Happy New Year C&R awesome and all the viewers. Im getting ready to take off on a short vacation so I actually worked all day today. I watched a marathon of previous episodes. Trying to stay off gunbroker.com now so I wont have to cancel my trip.

a new blueberry funding drive?

I'm certain the community that's sticking with you through all of the current manifestations of problems with Patreon is doing so because we put our need to make a point to the platform beneath the need to make sure you have the resources to produce what content, I'm also fairly sure that even those who did leave are also hoping to come back as soon as an alternative is established, because we don't want you to burn out or starve to put content together. Your content now will be important as visual aids to historical records in a digital era, which is especially important due to the degradation of records of the time period you are presenting. Hopefully you (along with Ian, Bloke, Rob and others) will also inspire younger people to become historians (both amateur and professional). It's not an altogether bad thing to inspire. There will always be a community to support you and appreciate the fact that it really is stressful, and I'm sure that the payoff will be a lifelong network that you can lean on. I'll be honest and say I haven't necessarily deciphered all the clues you've dropped about what the secret project is going to entail, but I'm sure the results will be spectacular, I can't wait to see it. Happy New Year to you and to yours Othias, I hope the coming year proves to be the year where you are most proud of your work despite the obstacles. Sincerely, A loyal and chatty patron

Happy New year everyone thanks for all the awesome work
