A Thing of Rare Beauty

Every once in a while I come across a thread online discussing whether or not Mae is attractive. I know with that sentence alone there will be some reassuring comments, but try to resist them this time because we honestly don't care.

Mae's gender has really been a non-factor for the show. Our whole mission is trying to develop an in-depth history of each firearm and presenting that as clearly as possible in just two weeks of turn around. Mae was picked up because at 6'1 and fat I gave the wrong sense of scale AND because if I was firing I couldn't run the cameras. Also, who wants to work on something this big alone? As the show has progressed I've also noticed that having someone shoot a gun without knowing the whole history up front kinda takes the bias off a bit. Mae tends to get filled in on the history as she runs the cameras for me indoors later.

Every day I pluck comments off of YouTube and they're about 50/50 blatant insults or just "ooh la la." Neither are complimentary though when you consider our mission as, whether positive or negative, they focus on her appearance alone.

If you like Mae, thank her for the hard work she's put in: lots of it behind the cameras, or helping with editing, or even manning 10 hours of wheel time on a road trip.

Now personally, I like Mae because she is not the slightest bit preoccupied with her image.

Mae Responding: So I just noticed we can put tags on posts, gotta get me some filters set up. So I'm going through every post we've ever made and I came across this one. Just wanted to say I appreciate you all and it totally made the last 2 hours of mindless sifting worth it. Ya'll are awesome, thanks for the support!

C&Rsenal

It is likely many of us are fathers (and some mothers) with daughters that watch these shows and like seeing a young woman who is informed and passionate about these firearms and their history and hope that ours might be able to share the same interests with us. Clearly firearms are not the sole provenance of men but it is great that there are good "role models" showing the way for other women interested getting into all realms of shooting.

Adam Coe

I think Mae does an excellent job on the show, it doesn't matter that shes a female, her opinions are all accurate and well reasoned. I personally like the fact that she is the one to shoot the firearms on the show as it has made it much easier to convince my fiancee that those firearms aren't going to knock her over. Mae is nothing but an asset, and if people are watching for eye candy, that's what the guns and the wonderful bearded host are for!

Alexander Limparis

Well I for one find Mae attractive for many reasons and yes, her gender does have no bearing on her role in the show. I do like that Mae really has come into her own as the show has progressed, speaking her mind when discussing the ergonomics and actual shooting of the various weapons. I know a number of people who would be totally useless in Mae's role because of their pre-existing likes and dislikes that are not based in reality, while Mea's oppinion is based solely on first paw experience. Combat video games are the worst thing that even happened to Firearms history and shooting knowledge.

Tiger in man's clothing

A winning team you have. Don’t go changin’!

I´m afraid the current move of content to PornHub did not actually raise the quality of the comments. Given a few "juicy" examples under the uploaded Lebel 1886 video. But I guess that comes with the territory... *le sigh*

Michael Schumacher

Mae brings a great perspective and shoots a lot better than I do. It's too bad that there are people that reinforce the whole #metoo stuff that is going on. Both my wife and I watch and we impressed with her knowledge. It's also inspired my wife to go to the range with me more often which I love. Thanks Mae!

michael mckechnie

Mae is more capable than many of the men I know. I spent a bit of time in the military (77-81) and she compares well to any of the good NCOs I knew then. People like to talk behind your back when there is little chance for repercussions. Aw hell we know Mae has her head on stright.

John Whitaker

It's sad that you have to deal with Trolls. It's obvious the amount of work and effort that goes into producing these videos. I enjoy both you and Mae's work making them and have learned so much from them. I can go to gun shows and recognize and know information about firearms that I see that I would never have known existed before finding your channel. Keep up the great work.

Mae's great because she's great. I thoroughly enjoy her enthusiasm, insight and humor. That's all there is to it.

Chris M

Mae: personality, commentary, insight, humor, accuracy (both with and without guns), and generalized fun factor - 100/10.

Cheese-puffery aside, Mae, your presentation is always excellent and appreciated. I often wince when Othais speaks of the number of rounds you had to fire from some of the rifles in order to obtain a good production. Thank you!

Edwin A. Novak

It is sad that you felt the need to remark on the dubious characters making derogatory comments on May. I also noticed the o-la-la remarks. Well, those responsible are mostly sad sacks. Clearly things must have started to go out of hand. Both types cannot be helped except by themselves. I hope that your intervention will activate some residual sense of shame. Those who won't manage should be dispensed with. Please convey my appreciation to Mae for her hard work.

Mae you do a great job and I love all of you there. There are people out there that just like to cause people pain, shame or embarrassment. They are for the most part small minded and unhappy and you know what they say? Misery Loves Company. I sometimes find myself in their company and once I figure it out I extricate myself from that gathering ASAP. In my humble option there is nothing on youtube that comes close to your spit and polish on the content you produce. I thank you Mae and the rest of the crew! I am a big fan!!

On the topic of YT haters, this pretty much sez it all: https://www.eatliver.com/her-nose-is-too-big/

Bruce Brodnax

Clearly standard issue: the extra crispy ones are narrower & straighter, & generally nobbier at one end like a shillelagh...

Bruce Brodnax

Mae's irrepressible smile nearly every time a round is fired is one of the things I look forward most in the videos. The channel wouldn't be what it is without her. Your work here is really special and valuable. Ignore the jerks and keep doing what you're doing.

Mike F

Someone who can shoot and talk history of firearms with you? That alone puts Mae close to "the perfect woman" category. In the world of social media, I wonder if there isn't an "Othias Groupies" Facebook page out there :). I keed, I keed. Keep up the great work guys!

Milsurp Mike

I really enjoy your programs, and I think Mae brings a lot to the table. One of the downsides to the Internet is that anonymity allows people to let out their dark side. Ignore those trolls and keep on. One of the great things about your program is that it feels like its being done by people I would hang out with (if I lived in Carolina instead of California). God bless.

Kent W.Fevurly

Being a patron for a little while and hearing about the amount of work that goes into this show with the budget available, I for one am simply great full for anyone who puts their time and effort in to provide my entertainment for my $1 a month. The internet is what it is and I wont be changing that any time soon but I can simply thank you guys sincerely for weathering all manner of adversity and having the guts to put yourself out there in a professional manner in spite of any foolishness. Keep up the good work and always remember there are people who appreciate what you all do for the right reasons.

I have gotten weight loss compliments...

C&Rsenal

Thank You all for your hard work. Don’t be afraid to show the best of everyone and share who you all are. Remember trolls only have power if you grant them power.

John A Rose Jr

I have always enjoyed Mae. My daughters like seeing a woman that’s about their size shooting these historic weapons. I like that Mae gives a good portrayal of an average WW1 soldier. Thanks for everyone’s hard work.

Terry Rindal Jr

I forgot to ask... once I got over Mae's 'stash I noticed a flannel, 2 jackets and wool gloves. You didn't ship Mae off to Antarctica for some weird testing or something? Charleston ain't that damn cold!

John R. Dorn

Love Mae and Othias! If you take off the "oh la la" comments for Mae, but do you leave the "oh la la" for the Big Bearded O?

Chairman

Thank you Mae and the entire team for making such amazing content. Keep up the good work. If I remember right Google took over usenet and the comments of old internet are the same as they have ever been just not as much ASCII art in youtube. As a side note someone needs to make HaterAid Historic Gun Oil.

I don't know how people couldn't like Mae, she's awesome and helps make the show what it is!

Christian Hanes

Mae is a staple to the channel it would not be the same without her in it.

Jonathan Jordan

The blessing of not being physically attractive is that we are forced to develop personality and character to attract the opposite sex or in this case a youtube channel attracting viewers. The photo above shows Mae has plenty of character and a great sense of humor. And I find that very attractive. Keep up the good work Mae.

C&Rsenal

We're just happy for $1. We average about 22,000 core viewers that watch EVERY episode. Imagine if they all gave $1!

C&Rsenal

What kind of cars?

C&Rsenal

I grew up in the free range internet. I'm used to competing on edginess and it doesn't really phase me. Strangely /k/ is doing what it does. I'm usually more concerned about more personal emails, etc. We've had a handful of alarmingly fixated "fans."

C&Rsenal

Perhaps a few...

C&Rsenal

Mae has consistently struck me as a competent and capable shooter, who offers an additional perspective to the one you offer. The fact that she is a woman is quite irrelevant to that, though I will note that it is refreshing to see a woman in a field that is otherwise heavily dominated by men.

Trolls will be trolls. All I know is Mae can shoot!

There's a whole lotta stupid out there and it likes to comment on YouTube videos. Pay it no attention, y'all are doing a great job

Bill Smithem

The smile that girl had the first time I watched her cut loose with a full auto... priceless! Pay no attention to the comments on youtube. The people who run it are trying to curb free speech and the vast majority who watch it eat tide pods. What did you expect?! Keep doing what your doing and give Mae a big hug. Be thankful she's involved and helping in this passion you have.

John R. Dorn

Miss Mae; I find you intriguing in that not only are you willing to shoot all the firearms of history that comes through Othias' door but you give a very honest & in depth opinion of each that most men may not give due to the MACHO status that they tend to have. Thank you for being the right hand Woman to this wonderful show.

Eh, the Internet causes 75% of males to regress into 14 year old boys.

Bill Huizinga

Mae, I love the huge grin on your face when you're firing automatic weapons. Most anyone is grinning at some level when doing so. But you wear it on your sleeve. That communicates the story of C&Rsenal as much as anything. You and Othias present unique content, rich and deep. Y'all keep it up!

Robin J Rhyne

Thank you both for your hard work, I’m embarrassed by the small amount I can pledge. I watched 4 of your episodes back to back the other day and felt I was getting a real treat at a bargain. I’m not sure how all this works. But if you had to pay per view, perhaps you would get more subscriptions. I’m hooked on the show. If I was watching it free now, I would be compelled to pay ransom if you held the next episode hostage. I envy both of you. Thanks again.

A Pete Bingham

It's a shame this post needed to be said at all. On the other hand, Mae with a cheese doodle mustache is an outstanding picture! The next time your fund drive offers posters of guns, you should also offer a poster of that picture. Even if someone knows nothing about C&Rsenal or even guns, that's a great picture that has comic worth all by itself.

R Brooks

"Great spirits have always encountered violent opposition from mediocre minds." Albert Einstein

Keep strong Mae! A great man once said

I personally like everyone and everything that makes the show what it is.

A Pete Bingham

I have been in multiple videos on youtube about cars and car stuff and get shit all the time in the comment section for being ugly or being an idiot or something negative. I hope Mae doesnt let these idiots break her down. It happens to all of us men and women. Its frustrating trying to make content for people just to have them shit on you. Hope to meet both you guys someday to thank you for all your work.

Never thought about Mae other than as a complement to you and vice-versa. You're a great pair doing a great job.

RJ Ruble

I like Mae because she's awesome.

Pest666

And the fact that this project is still going after all this time means that Mae is not alone in these qualities. I expect that a sense of humor is quite necessary in the C&Rsenal.

Jasper Welsch

Mae is smart. Mae is entertaining. And Mae can SHOOT. She can shoot anything under the sun with a smile on her face. That makes Mae very special.

Jasper Welsch

We all know /k/ will not debateing weather Mae is Base or not. Thanks for yours and Maes efforts /k/omrade.

Just to say thank you both for your efforts. I find them interesting and informative. Keep up the work and ignore the idiots.

I think Mae is great. She actually discharges a firearm with a certain degree of grace. Most importantly she compliments you Othias. Up the trolls!

Greg Bastian

My hat's off to all who work to produce C&Rsenal. I'm sorry that you have to waste time reading and dumping troll comments. I always like to see Mae's after recoil grins.

If I may, Mae is a badass. Thank you Mae! Thanks everyone at C&rsenal!

Rupanrx

Mae makes the show more interesting and better than it would be without her. And she may help a few women see that it's OK to enjoy guns.

Red Marley

First people should know that the camera adds 20 lbs and subtracts an equal amount from your IQ. Second Mae is presenting information as an expert and it seems ridiculous to focus on nonsense. Third I have met you both and your critics are best not visible! Thank you for presenting an entertaining channel which I learn from.

Michael Silverman

I think Adam Savage said it best when talking about Kari Byron. "I know that creepers gotta creepy, but she is like a daughter/sister to me so don't take it personal if I hate your guts and have you removed."

Sean Smith

We're not just talking about Youtube comments are we? You're never going to get any useful feedback from the peanut gallery anyway so stop going to that site.

Jonathon Payne

You guys are the perfect balance of beauty and intelligence. And Mae is easy on the eyes too. Keep up the good work.

I can definitely understand this is getting tiresome for you. IMO, these kind of discussions or comments are disrespectful, regardless of whether they consist of praisings or insults. I want to give a big thanks for the most interesting (and intelligent) firearms channel out there. You two complement each other very well.

Viktor Henning

Mae rules! I wish i was as good a shot as You are. Keep up the awesome work You do and F..k the haters!

Oh yes And the trolling is good too. Othias is a good sport

Thanks Mae ! Your passion for the work you are doing, and enjoying is indeed awesome

Thank you for your hard work and your mischievous comments! BTW the 'stash makes you look like Teddy Roosevelt.

Mae, you are a very important part of the show. I in particular love the grin that you have after shooting, thank you for your efforts.

Stephen Woods

Thank you for the hard work. It really is appreciated.

James Bond

Mae Rocks!! It clearly shines through that she really enjoys what she is doing, especially when on camera ! We should all be so blessed! Her perspectives on the various weapons are honest and valuable!

Samuel Doak

There's a reason why I installed a Chrome plug-in that changes all YouTube comments to "herp derp herp derp herp derp."

Two things: as a dad of two daughters about your age, the idea of concerning myself with Mae's looks is silly on the face of it, but second, Mae does have some mannerisms that remind me of my wife, so I don't have to work very hard to catch her personality. Since our 30 anniversary is this month, I'd say that is a good thing. What I really appreciate that she brings to the show is she isn't totally ignorant of shooting and just doing it to make you happy/for the show/to be on YouTube, etc., but she also isn't all tacticool and a wannabe Rambette. She is like my wife and daughters; smart, but doesn't take her self over seriously. So yeah, I'd say you picked the perfect Dr. Watson to your Sherlock. Gun nerds everywhere thank you.

THANK YOU, Mae. She's funny as hell and I love her perspective on the various arms. It's honestly pretty pathetic if people are reducing her to a cat-call or the opposite of that (would that be a dog call?). Keep doing what you're doing. You've got a winning and informative formula.

nothing is as hot as watching a woman laughing while shooting a rare piece of kit! Go Mae!!

praack

If this show was all about Othias droning on for 45-90 minutes, uninterrupted, I would probably still enjoy it (and not many hosts can pull that off). But Mae certainly makes it even better.

Pirren

That's rockin' a tres French 'stache.

"You're so brave to go on camera" is often a backhanded insult, but in this world where entitled trolls will pick apart (especially) women on camera for their looks I have to salute Mae's display of grace being photographed by high-speed cameras with the shockwaves of recoil running through every ounce of her - not to mention the comments that a visit to the hair stylist must generate. She's an educator and should be afforded all the respect that entails.

David Brewer

Mae is a vital part of the show. As to appearance, I wish she was my Granddaughter. Geoff Who notes she occasionally needs a better stock weld.

I think that is a very good assessment. Her level of expertise is very appropriate, and she has a pleasant TV-presence. Her assessment of the guns are well reasoned and and delivered with enthusiasm and humour. I quite like that she's a woman, it offers a nice contrast to Othias, helping making the show more lively.

Petter Bøckman

Ah yes, the trolling :)

Minion

YouTube comments are a cesspool. Here is where your real fans are. Like many others I take Mae's role as someone who accurately proxies for what a typical WWI solder's statue would be. Aside that she has great taste in hats, and can expertly troll Othias. I really do look forward to her opinion on if a particular featured firearm is considered trustworthy to carry into battle. I was a bit concerned when in the last video I noted significant gas escaping the breach, and sure enough your related that these rifles were outside their operational range. I was hoping that Mae was unscathed. Which apparently was so. But I wonder, Othias, did you get some wood splinters from that second failure?

Ron Johnson

Mae's alright and all and I know she works hard, but she doesn't have a glorious beard for running fingers through. Seriously though, the show is a credit to everyone that works on it. Thanks for going to so much effort for a bunch of gun nerds, we're not often appreciated!

James Healy

Othais, You are lucky to have such a good friend and coworker both are very rare to have in one and it shows. As for Mae’s analysts of the guns, I find them priceless, they truly add life to shooting the guns as well as life to the show and the show would not be the same with out her!

Considering the sheer amount of cancerous "gun bunnies" the firearms industry has created, I'd say Mae is quite remarkable. She likes guns for what they are, appreciates their historical significance, and compliments Othias well. I can appreciate that and am confident that most of your viewing audience does as well. Yes, there will always be that annoying group of commenters, but that comes with any YouTube vid that features a woman. Keep up the great work.

Well, unfortunately, such is the interwebs and anonymous posters. I really do appreciate all of the work that Mae, Othias and the rest of the crew does to bring such detailed information to those of us that enjoy your content. That is why I support your channel. Keep up the great work!!

F4_Phantom

The real question is whether or not that Cheeto is extra crispy or regular.Everything else is unimportant.

Ethereal

Mae. Love your work. Seriously, you've consistently presented your thoughts on each firearm, with both detail and humour. You're obviously enjoying your part in this project, and that shows. The "behind the scenes" video was really useful, because it showed what you and Othias go through to get a jam packed episode ready for us to watch. Ta muchly.

Minion

Mae is certainly attractive. I always understood that the criteria for choosing her to fire the weapons on C&R was because physically she most closely matched the height and weight of the average soldier of the time. Her cuteness has always been a bonus. However, no one is as beautiful as my Wife. She's turning 50 this year and she is usually mistaken for 15 years younger. I married the perfect woman and I get to watch Mae on C&R. Now tell us, Othais, where are the vile scum that speak disrespectfully of the young Ms. Mae? You hold them, I'll crack them.

Keep in kind that YouTube comments section is cancer. There is a strong following of us that appreciate the depth of the work y'all put into the project. Keep doing your thing! I thank the whole team for the high quality knowledge you are archiving.

Clearly we need more pictures like Othais' T-Gewehr glamour shots to distract some of the slower kommandos

ayures

Mae is cute though, and so are you othais. Lol. Also, that picture really makes me think about the “diabetes” commercial guy 😂.

Sean

That's preferred yes. But I found this picture again and needed an excuse to post it.

C&Rsenal

I believe there is video evidence on our instagram?

C&Rsenal

The show is awesome.

Lance McCarty

You two crazy kids are awesome! Thank you for making us all more informed! Don't change a thing!

Donald Gray II

Can we just... not care?

Darth

I like Mae! The show is Great! Internet Trolls are generally Pathetic Useless Stupid individuals in need of a life

Paul Herbert Varga

You fine folks are doing a hell of a job; please keep up the good work!

Spencer R

The real question is if from there, she managed to flip the Cheese Puff into her mouth in a single fluid motion.

DanGodofThunder

I like Mae. I like you Othias. I like the c&r crew. I dont like keyboard faschists

Erik

Mae is awesome and so are you.

RitalinGamer

I think we can all agree that Mae rocks.
