TUTORIAL: "Blue Black" Textured Cloth

Hello & welcome to this weeks tutorial!

You may have seen that we have added a whole load of team members to our tuition team recently, and tonight comes the first tutorial from Amy!

She's going to run through a really simple and effective technique to get a textured look on your cloth & robes.

Today's tutorial is on how I approach painting texture on cloth, capes or any sort of fabric. I really like doing this technique because it allows you to add character and a little bit of interest to your model. It is also a fantastic way to add a bit of contrast to your model, which I will explain shortly.

I’ll be showing this technique on the loincloth of this Primaris Captain, I’ve chosen this part of the model because it has nicely defined edges which will allow us to show the various steps we’re going to take to create this effect. I mentioned earlier about contrast, this technique is a great way to show the difference in materials. I’ve already completed the edge highlighting on the armour in order to demonstrate this, you’ll be able to see two objects near each other that will contrast nicely the cleaner, more refined edge highlighting on the armour and the textured appearance of the cloth and this will allow the two to sit harmoniously together.
I hope you find this tutorial useful - let's get started!

And as always - lastly and most importantly... happy painting and make sure you share your results with us!
