Thirties Glamour Makeup

The 1930s is when the classic makeup look begins to develop. Makeup was used to create a soft rounded look to the face and to emphasize one's features. It was also used as a means of correcting one's deviations from the ideal beauty. Many of the companies in business at the time are still in business today so I was able to find ads from drugstore brands like Revlon and Maybelline, swatch cards from Elizabeth Arden and Shiseido, and even old Avon deadstock cosmetics. (Deadstock is product that never sold) I used a combination of these resources and advice from old magazines and pamphlets to pull colors and then followed the advice from stage and screen guides to create these looks.

The Jean Harlow Brow is a face-paint brow in five different shapes to mix and match for comic effect or maximum glamour. Start by giving your sim no brows and then remember to give them the face-paint when it's appropriate. (Tip: probably leave the brows off anytime your sim wouldn't be wearing makeup)

The Blondell Blush bright blush applied in circles to the apples of the cheeks for a cheerful look.

The Lombard Liner is a classic eyeliner that adds emphasis to your sims' eyes with only a short extension at the corner.

The Joan Crawford Eye is a matte eyeshadow applied only to the lids and looks best on sims with a well defined lid.

The Betty Davis Eye is a shiny eyeshadow that reminds me of classic cartoons like Betty Boop and Minnie Mouse and mimics the effect of rubbing some vaseline over one's eyeshadow.

The Marlene Lipstick features an overdrawn cupid's bow and a slightly underdrawn lower lip for a much softer, rounder look than the 1920s.

The Claudette Lipstick follows the natural lines of your sims mouth in the same colors as the Marlene Lipstick.
