December 2023 Update: First look at the Kaijuborn update plus new Godzilla subraces

Hey everyone! 

This has been a very busy, hellish month on my end. Christmas stress, my dog Jasmine died, family members lost work, and people have not been nearly as kind as the season would make one think. Working on the kaijuborn content has been hard with all of the stress, but I do have something fun for you all! 

A first look at some of my plans for the big kaijuborn update. This is the step to a more fleshed out kaijuborn system based on 5e. You'll find a few more details on that part inside. 

More excitingly, this update has a whole BUNCH of new Godzilla subspecies! I will be the first to admit that I am not entirely happy with them. Showa, being the first, was one of the hardest to work on and honestly, the features I gave it feel like a cop out to me. I like doing one of the most iconic scenes as a feature with the atomic flight, but it feels simultaneously like too little and perhaps too much. And King of the Monsters is just weak flavorfully and mechanically. I honestly don't know what else to give the Godzilla that started it all beyond that though. 

 Legendary and Heisei being so similar in powers made writing for them particularly difficult. I mean, the first fully unique power we've seen from legendary is this magenta/pink evolution in the upcoming film. So I kinda had to wing it with him, despite him being a very good Godzilla. 

And then Zilla left me with very little to work with too. I mean, he's fast and burrows. That's most of his unique traits as a Godzilla incarnation. 

But yeah! I am relatively happy with the others others, like Shin, Minus One, G-Fest, and Earth. Ultima, as one would expect, is very weird and I don't know how I feel about it. Perhaps its unique feature is too much, but it is fun. 

Anyways, I hope you all find some enjoyment in this. I know its not all of what we expected this month, what with the Ultraman and Godzilla the Series kaiju still needing work, but it's unfortunately all I've had the time and emotional bandwidth to work on. I am truly sorry. 

All that said and done, I wish you all a happy new year! I hope 2024 is a better year for us all. With the next Monsterverse installment around the corner, I expect it to be pretty decent!
