The Harentul - Fox Fire

In Finnish, the word for the Aurora Borealis is revontulet.

But it translates more directly into "fox fires" or "spell fires".  An old myth says that the aurora is made when foxes run across the tundra and kick up sparks. Pretty neat, right?

I was inspired by this to make a race for my new fantasy setting for dnd 5e. Called the Harentul, these fox folk can run across liquid surfaces and leave an aurora behind them when they move.

Here is a rough mock up of the race thus far.

### Harentul Traits

Fox race with deer/elk like characteristics

***Ability Score Increase.*** Your Wisdom score increases by 2 and your Dexterity score increases by 1.

***Age.***  (under development)

***Alignment.***  leaning towards Chaotic Good.

***Size.*** Your size is medium.

***Speed.*** Your base walking speed is 30 ft.

***Language.*** You can speak, read and write Common and Harentish.

***Claws.*** Your claws are natural weapons, which you can use to make unarmed strikes. If you hit with them, you deal slashing damage equal to 1d4 + your Strength modifier, instead of the bludgeoning damage normal for an unarmed strike.

***Darkvision.*** You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

***Fox Fire.*** As a bonus action, you can transform for up to 1 minute. While transformed, your fur takes on the appearance of the Great Aurora and whenever you move, you leave a trail of shimmering light 5 feet wide behind you that sheds bright light for 5 feet and dim light for an additional 5 feet. The trail lasts until your transformation ends.

Once you have used this feature, you cannot do so again until you finish a short or long rest.

***Ever Running.*** You can move across any liquid surface such as water, acid, mud, snow, quicksand, or lava - as if it were harmless solid ground (creatures crossing molten lava can still take damage from the heat).

Thank you to my patrons for sticking with me despite everything happening. It is appreciated.
