I have done a handful of wedding speeches now and always give this advice to people nervous about it: Pick 2-3 favorite stories you know about the person/couple. Then write an intro and outro that fits a theme you can connect to those stories. And the meat of the speech is just telling the stories you already know and love which will sound more authentic and less like you are reading a speech. “I’ve known X since we were 8 and I’ve had the pleasure is seeing them grow as a person - insert story 1* - X was always the rebellious kid, always getting in trouble… insert story 2* - those first few years after college were a struggle but X was always there for me… insert story 3* (about the couple ideally or a story of seeing them fall in love) - and now Y is part of the family, part of her story- and I am so excited to make more memories, to see how much more you grow together… here is to the happy couple!
