Greg, I could listen you go on about being a parent all day. I think I’ve done or been through everything you just said with my own son. And yes Richard scary is the worst

2025-08-22 15:45:17 +0000 UTCGreg, I apologize if this comes off the wrong way, but I had very visceral reaction when I head you say you'd show Ben the Star Wars movies in the order "1,2,4,5,6,3". I sincerely hope you're talking about the release order of the movies and not the episode numbers. Normally when talking about Star Wars, you use the episode numbers - the original trilogy is 4, 5, and 6 (new hope, empire, jedi) and the prequel trilogy is 1, 2, and 3 (phantom menace, clones, sith). Watching them in 1,2,4,5,6,3 (phantom menace, clones, new hope, empire, jedi, sith) feels like one of the worst way to watch them. I can't think of any good reason to watch them in this order. I did some search and everything I can find shows Cornswet likes the Machete Order and that's been around for a while - 4,5,1,2,3,6 (new hope, empire, phantom menace, clones, sith, jedi). I think this order is perfectly fine, but I'm not sure Ben's old enough to fully get this order. The real appeal of it is right after the big reveal of Vader you get the backstory and it heightens the drama at the end of Jedi even more - will Luke fall down the same path as his father? And it makes the redemption of Vader/Anakin better. But from what you've said about Ben at his current age and how much he's there for the fight scenes more than the drama/story, I think ending with Jedi isn't as eye-catching. My sister showed her kids the star wars movies in the past couple of years and they went with the release order - I'd say that is the better order for younger kids. Each trilogy has its own feel, storytelling, and action choreography. This way when you jump to the prequel trilogy with all of its eye catching colors and crazier fights, you don't go "backwards" to a more subdued movie that Jedi is. Again, I apologize if I come off a bit ranting on this one, but I wanted to get my point out there. If you want to discuss this more or want me to post up an audio/video reply to go into more detail I'd be happy to.
